On a related note I think it's time someone started giving out John Piesen's selections here.

Damn that sucks , she was such a nice filly acted like a old pro when she was just a baby , I had the great fortune of getting on her a few times when she was a 2 yr old at Turf Paradise at Punk Cheeney's barn when Mr Finley still owned her . Im sure he was there at the gates of heaven waiting to give her a pat, rest in peace classy girl.

On an interesting side note , Mr Finley sold her for 1 million dollars to MC Hammer , at the time everyone told him that he sold her too cheap , his reply was that , that money would keep him in horses for the rest of his life.
After she was sold and the deal was done Mr Finley being the kinda old cowboy like guy that he was , learned that he had sold his filly to a black man ( he didnt know who Mc Hammer was ) at that news he said he would have rather kept her and rode her to the store and back than sell her to him lol.

Did you know Mr Finley ? Very interesting self made man , always very good to all the people around the barn handing out hams and hundred dollar bills during the holidays . He had a very good eye for horse flesh and really never paid very much for any of them and had quit a few turn out to be stakes winners and good allowance horses some are Miss L Attack and Red.
I dont know how anyone else could remember the story differntly unless they were at barn D 3 at Turf paradise on that Sunday morning , there were a few more adjectives that he used , but I didnt think that they needed to be re-said.

Your welcome, I have to tell you that Lite Light was one of if not the classiest babies I have ever been around , she was so smart that we used her alot of times to be the lead for the other babies and you could see her giving them stink eye when they misbehaved. The only reason she lost the Turf Paradise futurity is because she got knocked around from gate to wire , I remember Linda , Punks wife telling me she had like 22 diffirent spots on her where the hide was missing.

We are obviously not talking about the same "Mr. Finley" -- is it Jack Finley you are talking about?

The only Jack Finley that owned her , who always sent all his babies to Punk Cheeny and Linda Tanner ( Punks wife ) in Phx. Az. , Kevin Lewis used to break all of Jack's babies even after he started training on his own he used to go out to Dutch Berets place near Happy Valley road and get on them. Mr Finley was even kind enough to let me ride a couple for him in the afternoon , Housemaid was one of them and Dukes Moment was the other .

I never knew her racing...but she was one of the classiest and sweetest mares in the broodmare herd where I worked. I just loved her, she was friendly (which many were not) and she always looked for treats....I missed her when she was sold after the Foxfield dispersal and I am really sad that she is gone.
