I can't see how Liquidity can be considered, stamina is an issue with him.

If Chelokee were to be entered, he would be one of the "wiseguy" horses. After hearing about his Florida Derby run before seeing it, I thought that his trip was not as terrible as it was made out to be. I'd toss him if he were entered in the Derby.

What you did not see is his race prior to the Florida Derby. He had even a worse trip and yet re-rallied to win it in style. In that ALW race at gulfstream he was bumped pretty good and shuffled from 5th to last at the half mile pole and made a nice rally weaving in-n-out to win it. That was the reason I made a huge win/place bet on him in the Florida Derby. He was tucked nicely inside and was waiting for some room he never could get. He still switched to the outside to make a nice effort to come third.

hockey2315 04-16-2007 09:33 PM

I haven't heard anything about him but I highly doubt Sedgefield goes. . . The connections have Dominican in for sure and they know he's got a much better chance than Sedge on dirt. . . Sedgefield's last start was very disappointing and it was on his best surface. . . Unfortunately I think Belgravia or Joe Got even could knock out Chelokee. . .

hockey2315 04-18-2007 05:21 PM

Is Jack Junior being pointed to the derby? I didn't think he was but thedowneyprofile.com still has him on their earnings list and they've been taking horses off that have been confirmed to be off the trail. . .

Might want to add XCHANGER to the list.

I saw his win at Pimlico in the Tesio yesterday and he looked pretty sharp in getting it done. His owners want to go - Shuman, prior to yesterday, felt he was a cut below. The Tesio might have changed his mind, assuming the horse comes back from the race ok. I don't think the effort took anything out of him because he was an easy handride the last 1/8th.

If Ramon is available to ride, I think you'll see him the first Sat in May.

Mortimer 04-22-2007 06:40 PM

You know ,Steve, I have always been a large admirer of your fine work.

What are your thoughts regarding the 8 weeks for OClay and in general...SamP?..... and also if you have any feelings on lol lol lol.

Thanks in advance.

If Xchanger goes in the Derby it will be the owners forcing it and over the objections of Shuman. Here he is Friday with me on ATRAB:

And Dominguez has committed to Pletcher on Sam P.

Yokum, Jr. ( nickname GFY ) His coat was dappled, a fine animal indeed. The owners say they will skip the derby and train right up to the Breeder's Cup Classic where he should be installed as the 2:5 ML Favorite ahead of In- va - soooor.

MDF,

I was worried that there was a 'real' issue with CircQuay when Pletcher passed on the Wood, but his subsequent works say he's fine. The effort in the Louisiana Derby was a huge career best, and the chances of him running back to it with a race in the interim weren't good. Pletcher is well aware of how much time it takes a horse to recover from an effort like that, and I also understand thatr Angel Cordero was pushing to skip the Wood. Basically I'm more concerned about the pace set-up not being to Circular Quay's advantage than I am about the 8 weeks...

Sam P. is a 'nice' horse that really hasn't moved forward at all at three. He was too close to the Santa Anita Derby pace to be effective and think he'll get his run in Derby Day. And remember that Ramon Dominguez rode Bluegrass Cat last year and gets the call on Sam P. I'd guess his best races come later in the year and would say he is a use in the Derby only on the bottom of the widest trifecta and superfecta plays.

As for Lol Lol Lol, the less we say here the better if we expect to pull off the betting coup we are all hoping for with him... her... it...

Mortimer 04-23-2007 08:29 AM

It's amazing to me how much we think alike,Steve.

I appreciate your time here, although I'm not so sure what you said about lol lol lol .We shall see.

Sightseeing is defnitely not running....right?

Kasept 04-23-2007 02:04 PM

Suddenly, Teufelsberg on fence...

With the possible inclusions of Xchanger, Slew's Tizzy and Sedgefield in the Derby, Teufelsberg now sitting 21st...

ALSO.. Chelokee is likely NOT running even if the path were to be cleared for him.. Ran off 2.5 miles over the weekend and has a small hoof issue as well, and Matz does not want to waste or ruin him with a Derby try...

Sedgefield leaning towards a run; Slew's Tizzy appears 50-50; No word on Xchanger as of this afternoon..

VERY happy to see Matz doing the right thing by the horse. :) Love him.

I would also love to see Slew's Tizzy take a shot at the Preakness and not run back in two weeks. He is a beauty and I don't want him ruined. I would also like to have them try him on the grass...

Are you saying he ran off for 2.5 miles, or he galloped 2.5 miles?

This may seem like a real dumb question, but what does it mean when someone states a horse "ran off"? Is this when the jockey is thrown and the horse bolts around the track all out?

When a horse runs off, it typically means that the horse was out of control (bit between the teeth.) I'm assuming that's what happened in this case... I can't see Chelokee running loose without a rider for that long without being caught, but I could be wrong. ???
