What about MEEP-MEEP? |
Aqueduct Yes its real depressing...no matter where you try and hide from the multitude of pigeons and the Rastafarian's smoking you know what!
![]() But BELMONT... ![]() Be it in the clubhouse near the Woody Stevens trophy cases, or upstairs 3rd floor with it's spectacular views relaxing with a nice Cuban cigar or in the paddock area with a picnic table with a cooler of cold ones with friends near the Secretariat statue, there is NO other place to go and unwind from work. Is this Heaven? No...it's Belmont!:D |

Ya but you don't have fine shrubbery out front sculpted into the name of your track. |

And, how can anyone that's around horses be depressed? If that's where your head's at, your gonna get hurt. Horses don't think that way. Why should humans? Oh! Right...we bet on them and not the other way around. I'll take the barns. Leave the windows to the ones that like depression. Risks untaken deserve no rewards. |

I thoroughly enjoy hearing Larry Wallace call races when Meep Meep is running... :p |
I live 20 miles south of Boston.Closest track is Suffolk Downs. It's beyond depressing there...tellers are miserable and so are the patrons.I drive down to a harness track (Plainridge) where they have similcasting.Very clean and happy go lucky tellers.Although when Suffolk Downs is running races,Plainridge can only show 2 other tracks...argh....

The OTB is extremely depressing. . . The two tracks I go to mostly are Finger Lakes and Saratoga- obviously Saratoga is far from depressing and Finger Lakes isn't as bad as it seems. . .

Good gosh there is just no reason to use so much energy hating. Trying to fill the Repent void I guess. I will stop with the judging. Go about your merry way and have a good day. |
I only make it to the actual track MAYBE 6-7 times a year....I relish every trip there.

You think you live on some island. You think you are totally disconnected. Welcome to the U.S. for the first time. |
Belmont DOES have fine sculpted shrubbery. Ever check out the horseshoe around Ruffian's grave. If you get up real close, you'll see the plastic flowers and the chips in her stone. THAT'S depressing.

I haven't been told in a long time. Thanks for telling me what's up. I'll keep an eye out on those scary babies at the track. :D |

No, the track isn't depressing to me, it's exciting. NYC OTB's, however, make me want to bash lightbulbs over my head. Those are depressing.

I guess it depends where you go.
Going to Keeneland on a yearly basis in December, when it's ratty out, is still so beautiful and not depressing at all. Everything there is classy. But the last 2 years when I've gone there, I've stayed in Cincy. So I also make a visit to Turfway. Turfway is clean, but tacky. It's a much more depressin atmosphere there. Now as for my home track Canterbury, I don't think that place is depressin at all (except when I lose $$$ lol). During live racing in the summer, it has a younger atmosphere. You see young couples there all the time, especially on Thur and Fri nights. Minnesota summers (eventhough we maybe get 3 good months... maybe 4) are for the most part pretty pleasant, especially in the early evenings. So it makes the racing there not depressing at all. Canterbury doesn't have the classiness of Keeneland, but it's a clean and modern-looking place. |

Turfway is about as depressing as it gets, I call it the Dungeon.
I like to go to River Downs, it's not a bad place to go for simulcasting. |

I haven't been to enough tracks to comment for sure on your opinion. I've been to Saratoga probably about 100 times and never really experienced that. However some friends and I went to Belmont for the Stakes in 2002. I was having a great day, so I was able to make my wagers at a 50 dollar window. I had a guy come up to me and try to sell me his watch. Also I had a couple following me offereing to cash in a huge triple ticket if I had won. They were listening to me place my wagers at the window. It was more than a little creepy. I think I'll stick to Saratoga.

Aqueduct really sucks these days. It's a mess, the simulcasting screens are poorly laid out (had to walk all over just to find one small TV with the Illinois Derby on Saturday then another with the Apple Blossom), and the degenerates seem to be at an all-time high. Only been to three live days at the Big A this meet- I won't be back until Belmont opens.

No live racetrack is depressing.
Whenever I walk into a racetrack I get a sense of calm anticipation, not a sense of depression. When I have one in I get the same feeling I would get before a big game when I played competitive sports. So excited you cannot sit down, pacing, looking at the PPs 200 times, wondering if you are in the right spot, already making the horse excuses before he/she runs. Then when they win you know you were right, you cannot beat that feeling and its sure not depression. |
