Haven't used these particular figures yet but have found the equibase pace figures to be incredibly useful in the past. They were especially useful on the old Keeneland course where you needed to be on the lead. There were lots of races where you'd find a horse that had been on the lead three straight races but with very poor pace figures and another horse that had been 2nd or 3rd in their last three with much higher pace figures. Sure enough the horse that had been to the lead three races in a row would get hammered while my horse woud get ignored and when they broke my horse would break on top. Anyone not using pace figures would be screaming at the idiot jockey for not getting their horse to break on top. Simple pace figures would have made it obvious that their horse wasn't fast enough to break on top in that race. So I think it would be foolish for anyone to discount them from their capping especially since I imagine pace figures by Randy Moss will blow away equibase's pace figures.

I like Moss a lot. I don't really care about his handicapping
(though I see how some people would). I just like hearing someone who is both articulate and knowledgable. I also used to like John Vietch as well for the same reasons when he was on. I don't care for Kenny Mayne's routine but he obviously has his fans and perhaps has some appeal to non-traditional fans or racing. I suppose that's why he's there.

I tried them yesterday at Gulfstream. It will take me a while to figure them out, butI like the idea.

I haven't used Moss figures yet, but I've been a big fan of the Bris product for a long time and am happy to see DRF make the improvement. As for Moss himself, I respect his opinion over just about any public handicapper. His record speaks for itself as for what he's done in the figure making industry.

As for Mayne...love him. Some people take it way to seriously, but Mayne adds a few laughs if you give him a chance. I don't value his handicapping, but I do like him for entertainment purposes.

while I would agree Edwards is fine as racings "sideline reporter" she is so far from the type of racing knowledge that Moss has.

Moss pace figures might be a good thing but reading through the DRF website there sure is very little on how best to use them, I would assume the Moss on Pace" book is coming next.

I also think its a travesty that Beyer and Moss could not work together and have the numbers at least correspond.

What is the travesty of this? One fig is pace; the other final time. How should they correspond? Final may be a partial function of pace but it's certainly more interpretive than correlational.

Read Brohammer's book "Modern Pace Handicapping." He explains the Sartain methodology and Quirin's shapes which are the foundation for most sophisticated pace handicapping today.

I was talking more about the beginner who stumbles onto the new figures.

Mabey we can get Chris Lincon to do some next. People should stick to what they are good at instead of spreading themselves thin.
