well, not so hot finishes on turf translated into some nice races for perfect drift...wilco earned some money last year, unless he's absolutely hitting the breaks, i don't see a need to retire him just yet.

I hear ya Danzig, but his last few dirt starts resulted in 23+ length defeats. Tough to have much confidence going forward.

Danzig 02-10-2007 06:13 PM

watch him go off at double digits his next start and win by a mile...lol

Are you sure you guys watched the race today? He finshed trying, needed it bad, and ran solid. He will move forward off this and have a good year if they can keep him sound.

Yeah considering the length of layoff, the colic surgery, the fact that he wasn't made 100% for this anyway and the surface not being the one they wanted I figured he tried pretty hard and anything better than what he did would've been unexpected. Wasn't he 4th choice? Something like that. Could've sworn there was some other physical problem last year.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if we had a 4 horse race with Wilko, Funny Cide, Evening Attire, and Perfect Drift, they'd all find a way to dead heat for second. I love rooting for them though. If he won the Santa Anita Handicap I'd be ecstatic for his lil hard tryin' self.

I always liked him, though I never thought he was really a G1 talent. He was a joy to watch when you knew he wasn't the best, yet tried to run as hard as he could. The lack of interest today is very alarming.

The Bid 02-10-2007 08:45 PM

His run in Dubai last year was what he is capable of when he feels good. He can be a very nice horse if he stays healthy. Horse carries a lot of class.

Merlinsky 02-10-2007 08:53 PM

Come to think of it they said he had foot issues right? Maybe there was a case of the 'ow'ies today. How firm was that turf?

The Bid 02-10-2007 09:09 PM

It was a case of a long layoff. He had chips removed, he had the intestine surgery, I mean this horse has had pleanty of excuses. Im looking forward to the old Wilko showing up a few times this year.

Ah I knew I wasn't crazy. Chip removal. Yeah I mean if pretty much any horse had given his litany of excuses before this race and gone on to finish just out of 3rd we'd have all said 'well what did you think he was gonna do? Poor guy' so it makes sense that Wilko wasn't in front today. He tried. Do you think he'll get a decent amount of respect as a classy underdog when it comes to running in the Big Cap? Who else is pointing to it?

I backed him at 40-1 each way for the World Cup. got a nice enough payout.

He will in the bigcap, also his surface of choice isnt turf. Hes as good as anything that will be in the bigcap when hes right, better

You can't be serious here. Isn't Lava Man pointing to the bigcap?? When he's right, he's better than Lava Man on the Santa Anita dirt??

The Bid 02-11-2007 12:07 PM

Im dead serious, let him come in fit and sound.
