I loved the old Gulfstream. I mean, it wasn't the greatest place, but I spent hundreds of days there, and knew all the good spots. I could have forgiven him if he built a racetrack, but a cement casino/mall that happens to have a racetrack is not for me, and I resent it.

I could fly from O'Hare to FLL and then fly back into Midway that night from FLL, that would only be like the $300 and I could stay for both days

I'm not sure about the 'L' going to Midway.

Alot of people feel exactly how you do. I think Frank is trying to target my generation, where sounds and colors get us in the door. TV generation.

So what would happen if they messed with Toga?

Saratoga is protected historically.

I think Frank is doing the bare minimum to be able to have slots and couldn't care less about customers to the racetrack.

BTW, I agree the old Gulfstream had a ton of tradition and ran a close second to Hialeah back a few decades ago, but the same can be said about numerous stadiums around the country (baseball - football). They have torn them down and built entertainment centers. The ol' mighty dollar.

Stornach's original plan was to sell Gulfstream (high rent district) and race at Palm Meadows. I truely beleive this was his plan, but he got shut out by Palm Beach County, mainly PBKC (Dan Rooney).

Agree, I think we should give him a chance becuase his ideas are logical, but maybe the execution is where they lack......

I don't have a problem with modernizing facilities and updating plants but what Stronach did at Gulfstream was put in a racing surface and then build a plant to discourage people from attending. It's uncomfortable and unenjoyable for a day at the races. Hell, he even took away the third floor dining room this year and primarily designated it for slots players. It's a casino and it's not for me. If I go to South Florida I will go to the beach.

Hard to argue with your assessment, but I'll witness it on Fountain of Youth day. I was there on opening day in 2005 when they had that fiasco where they forgot to move the starting gate in the 1st race. I had the leader turning for home at 20-1. They should've never raced that meet in those tents. You talk about a cluster. I've waited two years and want to check it out.

I sincerely hope you have a great time and completely disagree with my assessment....and that goes for anyone that attends Gulfstream. My misery needs no company.
