oh,
and on the Sharp Humor subject.
very nice racehorse.
just did not get a chance to run all that much.

why are so many good Distorted Humor runners NY breds?
he has never stood in NY has he?

I know you can have a state bred come from any sire, it just seems like I see a lot of Distorted Humor runners on past performaces sheets listed as NY breds.
i know he has stakes winners like Sensibly Chic, Commentator, FCide, and Sharp Humor.
but he has a lot of NY breds in general also.
can anyone shed some light on that for me?
thanks.

Only one I like out of this group is MDO, but I'm not sure 40k is fair. AP Warrior is not worth 20K, despite his pedigree. British Blue was a good looker... since when was It's No Joke and Lawyer Ron added?

lawyer ron was purchased before the ky derby. no word yet on retirement, just that he will stand at stonewall when he is thru. he needs to continue to run, pad his resume and get some of that tarnish off of his image.

mdo is a bit high imo, but aren't they all anymore???

You figure they just shake up a magic eight ball? Or do they do an eight ball and then just start tossing out figures?

dart board?

no wait, i know...they take the final odds from these guys last race. add zeroes. there ya go, stud fee.

I thought it was nuts to run him there, but it was a shot for the Edelberg's (the Purdy's partners) at the brass ring... Has a great personality too, and likely will be a good sire.

that race imo is similar to when sun king pressed invasor...a bit of a 'bounce' by the top horse in the field, and at the same time, a great run by a horse who isn't tops, but has their moments.

Not so sure I agree with much of this. Couldn't one say that whatever horse was second in the mediocre Holy Bull also " extended Barbaro all out "? Couldn't one also say that the only truly special race Barbaro ever ran on the dirt was the Kentucky Derby? Couldn't one also say that Sharp Humor took advantage of a speed favoring track in the Florida Derby and a pretty questionable field save Barbaro?

Sharp Humor was certainly a well above average horse but he was also just as certainly another horse that, at least on the internet, earned some sort of reputation that was hard to justify when looking at his pps. In fact, it feels like his connections believed, or possessed, that same unjustifiable opinion when they foolishly ran him in the Cigar in just his second race back from an injury. This was far more ridiculous than them trying him in the Derby, where obviously he also had no shot, but there's only one Kentucky Derby and it is understandably hard to pass up after his deceptive performance in the Florida Derby. While it's possible that his unfortunate injuries would have happened regardless of where he had raced it is also quite possible that he is yet another horse who was injured because his ability was misinterpreted. Had he been less aggressively spotted perhaps he would have reestablished his form and then have been sound enough to have taken advantage of a situation akin to the mediocre bunch that assembled for last year's Grade 1 Carter Handicap.
