ok if you want first class fine dining in the world with a adventurous side but very expensive try either charlie trotters, whowill treat you like royalty 2 -7 course chefs tastings one is complete veg expect between 400 to 500 with tip, or tru, which has chef tasteing menus high priced but vaery creative the caviar staircase is a hoot. for great french cuisine i suggest everst, great view great french food very elegent, if you love italian spiaggias is italian with a fine ding twist, best view on top of the john han**** on the signature room food average , but the view!!!mexican with a fine dining twist topolobampos, steak houses that are tops are gibsons, or my fav gene and georghettis italin stak house , steaks there are broiled , large servings you get the good old boy feel being served by all old italian men , feel of anew york steak house with a attitude like , you wouldnt be surprised if the mob was sitting right next to ya

pdrift1 11-08-2006 09:00 PM

chop house is good but gibsons in my opinion and gene and georghettis is better if you are flying in eat at the hilton at ohare a roll back to the 20's , speakeasy type atmosphere and the best filet mignon in chicago, and ig you dont mind being served by pretty girls in fish net stockings and skimpy playboy type bunney outfits with a piano bar and the piano player is hilarious ythe name is the gas light club

Someone else suggested Spiaggia's. We both love Italian. Scavs, others have suggest Chop House as well. I think it will be between those. Thanks everyone.

If it's romance you're looking for nothing will beat the 95th (95 floors up atop the john hanc-ock) But I think the Pump Room at the Ambassador East will be open by then and that would be my second choice. Tru is great. If you want true Itallian and you'll be near there when at the United Center hit the original Rosebud on Taylor. Avoid Rosebud on Rush though.
I'm more of a Morton's fan than the Chop House and IMO Ditka's sucks unless you like cigars and overpriced martini's surrounded by wig wearing, rich, recently divorced, former men and bunch of money sucking former strippers.

If you're into Italian I might recommend Merlo on Maple. Very nice. Been there several times and always come away impressed. They specialize in the Bolognese style which is fantastic. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you for the chuckle.

you can't go wrong with many people have posted. a few other good ones...

Charlie Trotter's. The 'Kitchen Table" experience is probably the best meal I've ever had. My favorite Chicago restaurant.

Ambria. Top French. Very romantic atmosphere.

Vivere. Nouveau Italian. Great spot.

Naha. New American. Very slegant dining. Nice spot.

Boka. The risotto arborio is a killer non-meat dish for the vegan fans.

Gene & Georgetti. Gibson's is a great steakhouse, but for the best Chicago steak shop experience, I like Gene & Georgetti by a wide margin.

Italian Beef. Al's. Luke's, Mr. Beef. You really can't go wrong with any of these.

Some of my favorite Chicago options..

ERIE CAFE.. Steaks, outstanding veal chop, etc.. Cool room..

LA SCAROLA.. Italian obviously.. small, cramped, loud.. FABULOUS.. On Grand off Orleans..

TWIN ANCHORS.. Ribs.. in Old Town..

JOHNNIES BEEF.. Melrose Park.. On North Ave.. Has a 'grandfathered' charcoal grill for sausage/combos.. Great.. As good or better than Mr. Beef and Al's (and I love Al's)..

CAPRI.. Also on North Ave. in Mel Park, absolutely terrific Italian.. Family-owned.. Try the Calamari Capri appy.. Perfectly done calamari in pepperoncini hot oil..

RUSSELL'S BBQ.. Since we're on a Mel Park roll, don't miss Russell's just off North Ave., on left just past Maywood Park and Kiddieland.. Interesting nutmeg-tinged barbecue sauce with beef, pork, chicken,, Different..

If you hit Johnnies ask for 'tree' beefs or combos and no one will know you're not from the area

And Steve I've never tried Capri but will now. When my G-pa was alive he insisted on Rosebud and Armands (Elmwood Park) but he wasn't really open to change.

Yes and I agree very good.
On a side note you can rest easy as Arlington Park got an exemption from the town smoking ban for Arlington Heights.
