That's crazy. Look, I don't pay, but I can't understand how any racetrack charges anyone for admission. I guess special days are different, but on the average days to take more from your core customers is inexcusable.

When will they announce 2008 location ?
Does Gulfstream have a chance now that they have slots???

I don't pay either anymore, but I agree about the admission.
They should open the doors and welcome people in, to gamble, buy souvenirs, and eat the expensive food.

Gulfstream can't get the BC due to WAY too few seats. They are history for the BC.

Don't they also have the the new configuration that doesn't allow for 1 1/16 distances? I believe they run 1 1/8 only and the outside posts are a killer.

Including sunscreen even though the sun is brutal on Derby Day if you aren't in covered seats. Although I think I read afterwards that you could bring in sunscreen if you put it in a clear plastic bag. Would have been nice to know before I got severely sunburned.

Yeah, the Juvy would have to be a one turn mile or 1 1/8.

I know if I'm an owner of a horse going in the juvenile and I've paid a lot of money to race in the BC at Gulfstream, and my horse gets assigned the 12 post, I'm fairly unhappy to say the least.

i don't think the BC will ever go the Gulfstream again.

I think they should be a mile, but that will never happen, and they can't run the big fields with the ridiculous post position handicap. The only compromise would be if they used a different finish line....which is basically untenable for the BC.

Doesn't matter, they have way too few seats for the BC restrictions and nowhere to put people. They have disqualified themselves.

Can Gulfstream hold 50,000 people anymore? I thought the seating had been shrunken to build the racino.

I didnt know about the new configuration however I think it holds more than Monmouth's 40,000. I could be wong.

It is almost a done deal that Churchill gets it in 2008. The Breeders Cup people are in town next month to go over the contract with Churchill's new President.

Revolution 11-06-2006 11:29 AM

They should run it at Churchill every year.

Oh...I thought that I already heard that they were getting it every 3 years.

yep. it is.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 11-06-2006 02:38 PM

obviously with a owners license i pay zero to get into Arlington and while it is the most beautiful track in the world the admission is way too high. if any1 is paying 6 dollars everytime they walk into the door there next year lemme know and ill get ya some free passes. if topinka gets elected here tho you may not have to pay any admission, rumor has it slots will be in the tracks here

eajinabi 11-06-2006 06:06 PM

I dont understand why anyone goes to the track especially on BC day.
You go for the ambience?? please. There is nothing like going to the track watching the race on the "Big Screen" with a hundred guys in front of you blocking your view of the race and then when the race is over you have to ask the drunk guy next to you who won.

Trying to bet is even worse. Might as well cap the race while standing in line.

Gulfstream can hold 5,000-6,000 people comfortably. 12,000 is very, very crowded.

There are a total of 600 outdoor seats with a view of the racetrack. On the big Saturdays last year, those 600 seats went for about $75 and they are impossible for an average person to get.

Gulfstream is all about revenue per sq ft. Their approach is that it is a handle-driven and not an attendance-driven track.

It is a nice place but the big Saturdays are impossibly crowded. Sundays are better. Weekdays are best.

I was at Monmouth for Point Given's Haskell. 47,000. It was crowded but not uncomfortable. They do a good job of taking care of the people at Monmouth. Don't know what might happen when the BC gets their greedy little fingers involved.
