If your last statement turns out to be accurate, then I suppose Lisbon will be the next Lock of the Decade because that's how I would describe Moretti's performance in his debut.

Perhaps it had to do with getting kickback and being positioned along the rail, but Moretti was asked at the 3/8s pole with little response and then came under heavy pressure (even struck with the whip a few times) before the 1/4 pole and basically had no acceleration. He plugged along to collar a couple of pace factors who faded late but made absolutely no impression on the winner.

Many a Medaglia D'Oro offspring appear to be similar one-paced types, so while the 9 furlongs is probably in his wheelhouse, the penchant for losing ground or position on the turns might be a disadvantage when stretching out to two turns for this race. Considering they paid $900K a few months before it was determined that half-brother Battle of Midway was a dud at stud, Moretti may turn out to be one over-priced flop without substantial improvement.

In addition, the winner (Bourbon War) was wheeled back in the Remsen and never got a call, so going beyond this maiden event on Thursday, Moretti will be hard pressed to be considered a potential Derby horse without a massive move up.

Meanwhile, I wouldn't endorse Lisbon to any great degree anyways as there's probably a reason he was trained for the turf rather than the dirt for his debut unless his connections are completely clueless.

This doesn’t rank as high on my “bad beat” list as Catholic Boy’s second win against Analyze It (not sure i’ll Ever fully get over that loss, I literally smelled the money as they were pulling into the stretch. Ughh), but Stilts getting beaten for 2nd today in this race totally blew me up. I went from looking like a SURE THING as Stilts (6) was making his run into the far turn, to ripping my hair out like Larry from The 3 Stooges once I realized the 2 came back and got way the best on the bob at the wire.

Big exacta = busted
Sizable (enough) tri = rip the proverbial ticket up
Super = likewise, although im an IDIOT for not keying 3 slots, esp knowing Erlich would fade away like Hakeem The Dream but was likely to still hang on for a slice.

In summation, i STINK as a bettor. Couldn’t have handicapped the race any better, but have bupkus to show for it. It’s almost as if I watched the race before I was allowed to bet on it, but STILL managed to screw it up bigtime!

Even if you don’t earn, you learn! Today, well, it was a learning experience. A big one! And I’m betting big money moving forward, as I’m seeing things more clearly. I’m in my zone, with or without my $50 bet yesterday on Dealer Queen High at Pai Gow! My favorite bet in the casino! 50-1 odds. Walked into Sugarhouse with $295, after Tacconelli’s and a smoothie next door I had about $270+ to play with but only put $250 on the table. Won the first hand for $80 bc I lost $20 on Queen high. Pushed the second hand. Won the third with a flush ($20 on dynasty bonus too), THEN on the fourth hand is when I struck hard. Would’ve won the hand outright too but they don’t pay out winners when someone hits Queen high on the dealer. I hit for $2500. Gave the dealer John a nice buck and a half, played $200 on the next hand and lost bc my dumbass don’t split pairs. Called it a DAY! That was up until I walked past the new “sportsbook”. Placed $30 worth of bets just to say that I bet sports legally in Philly and headed back to the office! Not a bad hour between settlements! :D:eek:

STRIKE OFTEN AND STRIKE BIG! We only have one life to live! LIVE THAT $HIT!

P.S. sorry for the rant! Just an example of how you can ride the high wave one day, only to lose a nice portion of it back after being nosed out of another great
day the next! The life we’ve chose !!

Despite the horse validating your opinion last month at Aqueduct, you've chosen to abandon Moretti in favor of a horse trained by Derby-challenged Bill Mott. However, I can't really say I blame you when the people in control of Moretti consist of deep thinkers like this, spewing unfiltered filth for all to see:

“Medaglia d'Oro is a world-class stallion and being a half-brother to Battle of Midway, he has a real stallion's pedigree and that's what we're always looking for, hoping to develop horses to a stud career,” said Pletcher.
