very sad day, he was one of the one's. great rider
|
I appreciated that he always had time for young fans.
My favorite discussion with him was in 2010 at Monmouth when they upped the purses for that "Million Dollar" meet. Unfortunately they still ran many 5k claiming races with those inflated purses. He was sitting in the backyard between rides(as he did many days!). I asked him how he liked riding in NJ full-time. He said the golf courses are great, especially since he did more of that than actually ride. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Those photos hit hard Gene. Made the hair on the back of my neck rise.
RIP Go Go |
Garrett was great to retired racehorses as well, Georgie Boy retired to his farm and is living a nice life. I will miss him on and off the track, he deserved to be in the HOF before the most recent inductees, his resume was far superior, it's unfortunate it will be posthumously. I wish there was something that could have made him realize how much he meant to people and the sport. He will forever be one of the bests of the best. RIP Garrett, I hope you are finally at peace. :(

Thanks for posting those photos, Revidere.

It's such a shame. He was such a great rider, so gifted. In addition, he was a really nice guy.
There are some athletes that I just love watching perform. They are just so good at what they do that they have almost have it down to an art form. Garret was one of those guys. I'm going to miss him. |

Gomez on Pluck in 2010 BC Juv Turf. 13 post. Stumbles from gate. Avoids a fallen rider. Goes from last to first to win in a gallop. Amazing.
