Antitrust32 10-31-2012 03:05 PM

my brother is in hoboken. they got it bad.

he says the whole town smells like crap, literally, and there are dangerous downed powerlines. He walked 20 minutes to the ferry today to get into Manhattan for work... said manhattan is a ghost town.

so far they've been doing everything they can. Unless Christie bends over and starts chugging water.

The responses have been good.

They have been doing everything they can? You know this how? Perhaps this is true but you dont know anymore than what you are being told.

Christie is a very good politician. He started campaining for President as the Hurricane hit. Obama couldnt wait to get here for the photo op. Bloomburg is running a marathon on Sunday while hundreds of thousands in his city are without power and food.

The idea that they should get any credit is way premature as things can get very dicey especially since it is getting cold at night and there are a few million people w/o power.

we in the south have a healthy respect for hurricanes..this is what my town looked like in 04

no electricity for 2 weeks..problem was the temps were 100 degrees..not sure what would be worse..heat or cold after..

Antitrust32 10-31-2012 03:10 PM

what more would you like them to do.

its not like you can snap your fingers and have the whole mess fixed. the national guard is doing what they can, the funds were appropriated almost immediately.

come on now. a LOT more deaths could have occurred here. I mean, look at this devistation. a lot more.

hoovesupsideyourhead 10-31-2012 03:15 PM

yes the word got out and people did what they could .its far from over.politicly obama knew he had to have a 's' on his chest when it came to nj s christie. if he didnt christie would fry him..

So what do they deserve praise for? I mean what else would you expect them to do or say? I know people in N. NJ who have no power, roads, nothing is open, they have no food and they have yet to see a single official vehicle or person in an official capacity. Praising those three now is like saying the starting pitcher had a great game after the 1st inning.

hoovesupsideyourhead 10-31-2012 03:21 PM

i just spoke to a friend whos in new jersey doing a re wind on a generator..they are sending people home.the roof blew off of the powerplant..i see power bieng out in some parts for a month.that sucks.

Obama showing up isnt going to do anything but get attention for Obama but the President should make an appearance. Christie is going out of his way to praise Obama to show how bi-partisan he can be and how wonderful he handles a crisis. More or less he is using a disaster to promote his political virtues.

The correct response would have been "I have been in contact with the President and the Fed Gov't is committed to helping us in anyway that they can." Cristie has gone out of his way to praise Obama in a very public manner, on virtually every occasion that he gets his mug on TV.

We are about to get an Obama/Cristie press conference on tv. Of course the people who need the help wont be able to see it.

hoovesupsideyourhead 10-31-2012 03:35 PM

your right mugging for the camera isnt getting water and food to the people..

Well, no, you assume wrongly. I'm judging by comments from people affected on Twitter and Facebook. Social media gets you right to the sources more quickly.

This is a huge tragedy/disaster, and yeah, so far so good. Proud of Christie and the other govs for being proactive. Nobody is saying there are not people without water, food, etc.today - but they are just wrapping up search and rescue.

Pretty outstanding response. You and Hooves can keep dissing it, and politicizing it with your typical targets of dislike and pettiness, but that seems pretty wrong and unfair. You guys go ahead and bitch and moan without me. It's completely absurd. I'll wait until tomorrow, when you two are angry that the subways are not drained and all the power isn't back on yet. Good grief.

hoovesupsideyourhead 10-31-2012 04:16 PM

im not dissing anything.. its a sad state of affairs..i hope the people do the best they can.and noone asked for your comment riot..and its you that will be sad when obama the great loses the election..

Yeah, I can take offense at your constant dissing of the President, even if you didn't ask. Get over yourself.

Enjoy your last 6 days in the Derby Trail politics section ;)

Romney donated a million to the Red Cross today!

Obama got a free sandwich from the Red Cross and said it was great.

Total loss at $50 Billion is nothing.

The U.S. taxpayer is down that just with the GM stock we're still waiting to go up.
