Well, it caused a couple of people I know on FB to post about how barbaric racing is and how it's so cruel and they can't watch it anymore but they know all about it because they read the NY Times articles on it.

I swore a lot and then asked them what was so barbaric about choosing to retire a very slightly injured horse, especially when it is costing the racing industry and the owner a lot of money, which seems to be to be the very definition of placing the horse's welfare above money.

And then I thought about reminding them that the NY Times also breathlessly reported that Saddam Hussein definitely had weapons of mass destruction, but then I gave up and got a drink instead.

"Outsiders" read the NYT and believe that nonsense, "insiders" believe the horse was pulled due to a secret drug positive.

Have another drink and just enjoy the horses racing :D
