Freddy's a big boy, he can handle it. He makes those types of posts for the attention.

I'll explain it to you. I'm insulted by your post and Freddy's post. Plain and simple. I have three horses happily grazing in my pasture as I write this. The day that something happens to any one of them I'll be crushed. It would be callus to make a joke about me losing one of my horses so why is this topic any different? Some of the connections of these horses are likely on this board.

This is a thread that allows those of us that care a chance to quietly reflect back on the horses we've lost over the past year. This might seem silly to some of you but it's not to a lot of us.

You're insulted by my post? Really?

All I was saying is Freddy is kidding, so overreacting isn't necessary. No one is taking away your chance to remember horses. Again, I'm sure none of us ever want to see horses injured. But spare me the faux outrage at a simple joke.

Frankly I'm insulted by your suggestion I don't care. Posting a quote doesn't mean you care anymore than anyone else. To think it does is pretty arrogant.

Since you assumed it was just Freddy being Freddy, why ask him at all and make the cynicism remark?

You didn't think him asking if there was going to be a thread for sea scallops was an obvious joke? Really?

Maybe in the addendum someone should include this boards sense of humor.

Freddy's posts are just for attention.. but Hossy didnt post anything wrong. Hossy bets on the horses every day it seems like, of course he cares about their well being. Nobody can follow the sport as much as he does and not care when a horse goes down.

If I may...

He's of the colour of the nutmeg. And of the heat of the ginger.... he is pure air and fire; and the dull elements of earth and water never appear in him, but only in patient stillness while his rider mounts him; he is indeed a horse, and all other jades you may call beasts. ~William Shakespeare, Henry V

Quoting a Steve Martin character is pretty lame, don't you think?
That reminds me, remember when the earth exploded? And we all moved to this planet? But they thought it would be too dangerous to tell the stupid people? Oops.

Since it appears many people don't remember this classic Steve Martin joke, here is the transcript:

"Whew! You know why people can get away with stuff like that? I'll tell you exactly why people get away with that. Because the public has a short memory. That's why all these big stars do these crazy, terrible things and two years later they're back in the biz, you know. 'Cause the public has a short memory. Let me give you a little test, okay? This is my thesis -- the public has a short memory and, like-- How many people remember, a couple of years ago, when the Earth blew up? How many people? See? So few people remember. And you would think that something like that, people would remember. But NOOO! You don't remember that? The Earth blew up and was completely destroyed? And we escaped to this planet on the giant Space Ark? Where have you people been? And the government decided not to tell the stupider people 'cause they thought that it might affect-- [dawning realization, looks around] Ohhhh! Okay! Uh, let's move on!

Steve Martin, the cruel shoes;)

i guess because i don't get why someone has to exhibit their 'sense of humor' on any thread involving lost horses, or when someone posts something in that vein? but from now on i'll be sure to remember he's just trying to keep things light.

You've had funny posts before Freddy. But everything you've posted in this thread is extremely lame. Congrats.

The first time I did this thread was at the end of 2007. I was slammed on the very first page.

I didn't understand it then but every year since I've decided to do another.

I always assume that people - no one in particular, just in general - that they know what it is and why it is and that it won't turn into a big problem. Of course I realize that some people think it's a waste of time or stupid or ridiculous. The part that's hard for me to understand is why would anyone choose to spend their time writing posts on a thread they think is so idiotic.

I never mean for it to get ugly and every year that it happens I'm so surprised. I mean I really really am.

There is really nothing else to say but that I'm sorry it's apparently so offensive. :wf

And I don't get why someone would take such great offense to an innocent joke on a message board. People makes jokes in lots of threads around here. Jokes about people getting hurt, people dying, etc. Why is this thread any different?

somerfrost 12-09-2011 06:52 PM

Well Freddie, far be it for me to analyze your mindset or the degree to which you care for horses but it's obvious that posts such as your's are only for attention...look at me, look at me! Ok, mission accomplished, everyone is paying attention. No thread on the net is safe from such expressions regardless of how serious or tragic the topic may be...if I was offended by same, I'd leave the net...while some undoubtedly wish I would...I'm not and I won't. In the end we each must live with ourselves...if it takes posts such as your's to satisfy you then I'm glad for you.

Dahoss 12-09-2011 06:55 PM

We've really come full circle now.

The sea scallop line was hilarious...I don't care who you are.

What I find strange is that you are all so offended by his obvious joke that you have in turn "disrespected" the thread by not letting it go and making it so much more than it really is. See the irony there?

Shirley you could have waited till ALL the screens went down on the year. This pre mature LISTING is maddening. You should consult a Dr. I did after mine lasted for 4 hours. from now on I am drinking beyond reason when taking Cialis to prevent a 4 hour boner.
