Shift from what? All I read in this thread is the same old tired "all Muslims are evil" rhetoric which defies all reason but is the mindset of some.

Bill Maher, not exactly a conservative, had a good take on this:

"What it comes down to is there is one religion in the world that kills you when you disagree with them and they say, ‘Look, we are a religion of peace and if you disagree, we’ll f**king cut your head off,’ and nobody calls them on it. There are very few people that will call them on it. You know, it’s like if dad is a violent drunk and beats his kids,” Maher said. “You don’t blame the kid because he set dad off. You blame Dad because he’s a violent drunk.”

No, I asked you if you considered yourself a Christian, as I'm trying to find out what influences your views on other religions.

My eyes and ears.

BTW the last time I talked with a priest (I was raised Catholic) it was more of a fight and this was on Thanksgiving a couple years ago at my brother's house. He was way out of line and got straightened out regardless of whether he was a priest or not. Wish the good muslims would do the same.

Do you even have a clue as to what the majorty muslim view is towards women?

You mean in the real world, the varience within the variety of cultures Muslims of different tribes and sects live within; or in the narrow-minded prejudices of those that hate them?

I'm talking of the real world. Tell me a mosque that allows women to pray side by side with men? You support arranged marriages?

And in the real muslim real world, how do they feel about gays? Or are there gay sects and tribes the world dosen't know about?

So was Bill Maher right or wrong in his quote cited above?

I disagree with his quote. I think he's just another Islam bigot, and has been for some time. He's always used violence as his bash against Islam, as Dell does. As an atheist, he speaks equally disparagingly of Christianity, too, but for different reasons.

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed Religulous.

Their problems are not concerning only violence. It's also the barbaric way they treat their women including and especially female family members. Instead of ingnoring their ways we should tell be telling them not in America Muhamad.

And once again, I agree...not in America will you treat your women like cattle. I don't think it's a matter of ignoring such things but the realization that many followers of Islam are simply not evil. If you are a citizen and if you adhere to the rules of our society, you certainly are entitled to equal rights regardless of your religion.
