This year, to placate the Tea Party, the Republicans made a rule that every bill introduced in the House has to have the "Constitutional authority" outlined and attached to the bill.

The Republicans can't even follow their own rules :D - aside from setting themselves up with a remarkably silly rule that will be difficult to follow anyway :tro:

When you mentioned "CONSTITUTIONAL AUTHORITY" we started talking about the CONSTITUTION. I get the jist about what you are talking about . I looked over the link. For cripes sake Riot I don't have 3 days and a team of lawyers standing by to tell me what it says( to paraphrase one Dem Congressman) I'm asking a question because it seems you don't like the new rule. I think it's great!

I was commenting on your comment.

I love the rule. They were supposed to be following the Big C all along.

How have "they" not?

As I said, it is not the responsibility of the Legislative Branch of our government to presume or assume to determine "constitutionality". That is the job of the Judicial Branch.

So the Legislative Branch ought to follow the Constitution, no?

The Legislators are my Frikkin Servants. They are not in the Boss Position. I pay them to not waste their time and my money not pushing forward Legislation without first thinking about having the Authority, given them by the people, to push it forward. The courts have enough to do without having to BABYSIT Congress's every move.

When the Fed (Legislative Branch ) files suit against one of its own States for helping out and enforcing a Federal law. Houston we have a problem!

Just like the Fed required Louisiana barges to be inspected for life preservers before they headed out to clean up a catastrophe, to the tune of 3 days. Wouldn't want anyone to drown in oil. LMAO

BTW Thank God Mother Nature went to work and instead of the dead sea predicted by the same who wouldn't let the barges out is in fact back in business and the shrimp be all good!

The courts don't babysit congress. There are lawyers that work for Congress, that babysit the laws they try to pass. Independent lawyers (similar to the CBO) that vet all bills for legality, review language and conflicts when the bills are written in Committee.

Once a law comes out of committee, it should be good, and as we've seen, only the exception goes to the Supreme Court.

Which makes the Republican "cite the constitutionality" house law they just passed an even more hilarious PR stunt that has backfired on them.
