I think there is maybe a 1% chance she runs after the Breeders Cup.
But, when she loses and someone else wins HOY, she could be brought out of retirement again. It would be worth another year of torture on message boards to see that look on Jerry Moss's face again. |
She will scratch on Saturday. After a week of his mare being the media darling, he gets to take her back to SoCal still unbeaten. Soon thereafter an announcement will be made of an open stakes race going 10 furlongs at Hollywood in December to be run in primetime on CBS. Hollywood can call it the Champions Invitational, and invite horses they know won't show up plus the usual bums in SoCal. Following the victory, Moss will announce that Zenyatta will race twice in 2011, with the Santa Anita Handicap and Apple Blossom on her dance card.

There's one thing missing from your scenario.
The excuse, err, I mean reason, that she will scratch. |

The unbeaten record is everything to her connections. Why risk losing when so many in the racing media are ready to hand her HOY regardless of what she does on Saturday. She has shipped all the way to Louisville before only to be scratched because of the track. So it isn't like they don't have a history of doing it. I wouldn't be shocked if they challenge the Classic winner to a race in SoCal. They have no shame. |

So there! Take that you big smelly Zenyatta hater! |

Finally. A place I can ask this question. When did any of her connections ever say the BCC would be her last race?

Most of 2010. Also, most of 2009. |
Ok...that answers my question. Noone said she'd be "retired."
