What is your point?

Why is the Arc a distant second?

Cuz France is really far away?

Honu 10-01-2010 10:47 PM

I voted for the Arc, uneven ground soft or hard going a mile and a half has to be the toughest race in the world.

Interesting question...

Do people breed, train, race and schedule their entire campaigns around getting to one race? The Kentucky Derby is such a unique creature. Six or so months of horse racing is completely geared towards that race alone. I don't feel as though the others carry that same punch, although each is big by itself, they're not quite as big as the Ky. Derby.

Isn't the Epsom Derby regarded in similar fashion in the UK?

Because that's my opinion? I prefer dirt racing at a mile and a quarter, for horses that have been pointed towards this specific race since the day they were foaled, over turf racing at a mile and a half. Just because I rank it 2nd doesn't imply I consider it unimportant.

Let's rephrase the question... which one would you rather win?

id vote for the breeders cup juvenille turf sprint brought to you by toro snowblowers and lawnmowers.

Oh, OK. I thought you were basing your opinion on proximity to your current geographical location.

I guess I should have known better since you didn't say the Melbourne Cup was way down at the bottom of your list.

The Arc has my vote.

Top pick - Arc = top race across the waters. You point to it if your horse is good enough.

2nd place - KY Derby = restricted to 3yr olds only and more luck than being the best needed to win. If they changed the rules and shorten the field down to 1 starting gate instead of the added gate, then you wouldn't have horses that don't belong. Still would have 14 horses I believe racing.

My opinion only..

There is a very very simple reason why this is the case :)

The Arc.

As far as great racing days go?

Dubai World Cup and BC Day(s) AND Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Race day.

Totally agree -

Id vote Arc 1, Kentucky Derby 2 and Melbourne Cup (which is topping my list of races to go now!) 3

Now if you were to throw the Cheltenham Gold Cup in there :)

my miss storm cat 10-02-2010 02:17 PM

I was wondering about that... if the jumps were included where they'd rate...

You need to get yourself to Melbourne, young man. :)

More money....

johnny pinwheel 10-04-2010 06:53 AM

i think it used to be the jockey gold cup... but i voted for the BC classic. Dubai is the biggest truly international race. i don't know, its a biased question for dirt fans because we are the only ones that have those races.

Probably wouldn't be fair to vote three times cuz I'd take the Kentucky Derby every time. IMO a whole lot more racing fans in Europe and Asia know and follow our Derby than the other way around.
