I just am afraid the the purses being as they are, aren't enough to keep the track going. They have what? One Graded race (III) Connally Cup.

45 live racing days a year split between the Thoroughbreds and the Quarters.

This is a quote from the track President Andrea Young:

"We wish to thank the Texas Horsemen’s Partnership as well as the various breed registries for their hard work during the process of allocating race dates this year. It is no secret that this is a difficult time for racing fans in Texas. Texas race tracks and horsemen are facing intense competition from our surrounding states, all of which offer purses supplemented by slot machines at their race tracks. We feel the way we have structured this meet will give us the best shot at survival in the short term.”

I hope it does'nt close, but so far I don't see anything happening here in Texas to change it from being a very good probability in the next 5 yrs, let alone 10.

I have to admit, even though I live in Houston, I have not been to SHRP for years. I do most of my betting through youbet. I remember going to the track in the late 90's and it being packed on fri-sat. They even had a banner that stated it was the fastest growing race track in America.

Yet you asked me why I said that the track would close. It's all about computer convenience now days. I am guilty of it myself, course I live about 100 miles away too.

A third seems logical. 10 years is a long time.
