Doesn't matter if she's running against Gio Ponti or against Beulah Park maiden claiming fillies .. she'll just run to her competitions level and never win by any more than a carefully measured 2 or 3 lengths... sometime not even that far if she's feeling especially generous.

That kind of compassion shown for fellow horse is so refreshing.

zenyatta should have a separate hall of fame, since she's perfect while the other members are not.
matter of fact, i think they should re-name the eclipse awards the zenyatta awards-she should win the first of them. how cool would that be?

Danzig 08-22-2010 09:37 AM

and don't forget:

Finally came the show-stopper before the race. When Wallace announced her name in the post parade, Zenyatta did something she never had before.

"Has anyone ever seen a horse bow before a race?" said trainer John Shirreffs' wife, Dottie. "She bowed twice when she was announced."

"I thought I'd seen it all with her, but I'd never seen her do that," said Smith.

She now has songs written about her. They gave away sets of glasses with her picture on them. One man stood in a long betting line and ordered 20 win tickets on her, $2 each. When he left the window, he said he bought them not to cash, but to send to family and friends.
i bet no one ever thought of buying keepsake tix before.

Danzig 08-22-2010 09:40 AM

oh wow, this is amazing.

For the people who are closest to Zenyatta, however, it is her kindness and quirks, her charisma and contradictions that make them swear that she is heaven sent. She may be an imposing mare — taller and broader than most male horses — but by nature she is as gentle as a kitten.

Zenyatta allows her masseuse, Michelle Jensen, to crouch beneath her in her stall for her daily, hourlong rub. She licks the ear of her groom, Mario Espinoza, the way small children suddenly kiss their mothers.

and then this:

Shirreffs paused, smiled and offered a theory.

“She’s so large and so strong that some people are intimidated by her,” he said. “As she got into racing and winning, we kind of lost track of her underlying kindness. Zenyatta has evolved into something much bigger than we ever imagined: she’s the coolest horse in the world.”

she's the coolest horse ever!

Not to mention she's eclipsed every horse in message board history in topic of conversation.

I also heard that Zenyatta was against off shore drilling and when she retires is going help the fight against global warming.

that's true. i'm certain that no horse has ever existed that quickly became the subject of any other racing conversation. if you did a search on zenyatta here, every thread would appear, no doubt.

I'd like to see her join the cast of Jersey Shore in season 3 but the Rockies could be a roadblock in negotiations. Maybe they can film in Venice Beach? It's not like the majority of viewers would know the difference.

If I KNEW everyone would win on my touts, I'd definitely share.

Really.

Most of my bets are of the last minute "don't look or attempt to imitate" variety.
