I was lucky enough to get invited to the Australian Horse Of The Year awards, and Hall Of Fame induction at Crown last night.

Great night (not such a good morning today!). Typhoon Tracey (deservedly) picked up the top award got HOY.

Bart Cummings and his horse So You Think and Faint Perfume all came away with awards. p.s. a get well soon messge to Bart who took a fall recently and broke his pelvis.

Shocking (unsurprisingly) lifted the award for top stayer.

Crystal Lily came away with the 2yo award

Starspangledbanner lifted the international award, and surprisingly and rather frustratingly for many he grabbed the top sprinter award.

A very good night had by all.

Heard a rumour that Wealth Princess has torn a tendon. :(

I don't know if she can come back from that, and if she does, whether she'll be as good.

She was a huge talent. It's a shame she never got that G1 win (she was beaten by a neck or less in two of them).

my miss storm cat 09-06-2010 09:05 PM

Sucks and yeah I just saw this ed... really a shame.

It IS, however, better than this one. I'm sorry but this piece is 4 lines and when I was reading it i thought she was gone (till that last one)...

Nothing for Hot Danish?

Lucky you for getting to go and hooray for Tracy et al but I'm just a tiny bit surprised!

That's a terrible article! "Succumbed" is a very bad choice of word - makes it sound so much worse.

I know!

What were they thinking?

"Has lost one of his potential stars" and then they use past tense in that 3rd line.

Just awful.

Heading off the the Valley on Saturday to see Hay List. Should be a good race. I hope he's fit and ready to do himself justice. Not sure if Moonee Valley will suit the big fella, but he's hopefully got too much class for the rest. Reward For Effort concerns me though and he's unlikely to get to the lead early, if he does, then he is a superstar.

Clyde, for once can you act like a grown up? If you want to contribute to a thread with something meaningful, by all means please do, but if you're just going to make childish comments about anything and anyone..... don't bother.

MMSC, are you able to just remove those posts - there are no significance in them and it's pi$$ing us off. Or maybe just tell him you're not interested in teenagers.

She should win this race on Saturday. The 1200m is a bit short of her best, but if she's anywhere near her peak she'll be way too good for them. I'll drive up north to see the races up there, so I'll report back on how she goes (and post a replay).

Good call, sir. Hope you have a great day at the Valley.

Good call, sir. Hope you have a great day at the Valley.

Where abouts is Ruakaka, Ed? I'm an Englishman living in Victoria and my NZ geography is terrible.

Should be a good day at the Valley tomorrow (as long as the weather stays dry...... unlikely). A few good races to be seen but only really going to see Hay List and his connections.

I think he's way better than these lot, but the race looks very unlikely to suit him and his style, so I'm a little worried. Hopefully class will see him through.

_ed_ 09-10-2010 05:00 AM

It's in the upper North Island, about two hours north of Auckland.

It's a very small town, but it's a great track because it's sand-based, so the drainage is amazing. It's been a wet week, but the track looks set to be a dead 5 - fantastic.

And when you go around the back of the grandstand, you're basically at the beach, so the scenery is great on a nice day. One time I went out there between races and saw a whale in the bay.

I'll definitely find a TV to watch the Melbourne races tomorrow, though, and also some from Sydney - their fields look pretty nice. 2009 NZ Derby winner Coniston Bluebird is at a whopping 300-1 in the Theo Marks! Probably rightly so against that lineup over 1400m.

NoChanceToDance 09-10-2010 08:49 AM

Sounds like a great track to visit. I'll put it on the list.

Do you get to Karaka for the yearling sale in Jan/Feb? I might be heading over next year with a few to sell - but would prefer to stay at home to be honest.

Looks very competitive stuff at the Valley tomorrow, I'm looking forward to it. Been given a good word for Pitt Street in the first. Likely to be a big price, so we'll see how it goes.
