I think he's tactical and versatile. I just think he has some extremely poor racing luck. He came to a walk during the Santa Anita Derby and almost held on for second. Obviously he had trouble from the rail in the Derby. Even in the BC he drew the 13 post and was at least 5-6 wide going into the first turn while being wide the enitre way around and just missed by a nose. He did overcome being checked/stedied in the backstretch of the Rebel (I understand that it wasn't a great field, but then again not too many of the races had them either) and go on to win. Agreed Garcia is not in Gomez's class, but could have he done any worse then Gomez in the last two races? Probably not, because most of the trouble was uncontrollable anyway. But I just don't think it's fair to say he needs a perfect trip to win a race. The trouble that he has ran into has been far from minor.
I just think he's a gritty horse that gives his all everytime he goes out and as long as he stays away from the trouble he has found he has a big shot. I'm just hoping that alot of people go to sleep on him.

I think Ice Box was gritty. I think LAL quit last time.

I dont think Garcia is better however maybe he can take an instruction. Do Not ride the back of the horse ahead of u and make a little space.

I went from a guy who hated LAL to a guy who hated the way Gomez rode him

No clue if he will win but I think Garcia cant be as bad as Gomez has been on him

I really think everyone needs to stop the hysteria with the Gomez bashing.

Bringing up the BC Juvenile and it being a poor ride is crazy. He had a wide trip on a track where wide moves win.

He ran into trouble in the Rebel that was no fault of Gomez's and the SA Derby incident had to do with saving ground. If you whine and cry about every time a jockey saved ground with your horse you must love John Velazquez.

In the Derby, he ran into trouble in the opening quarter but had nary a straw in his path afterwards aside from a slight alter of course in the stretch. The fact that he couldn't outfinish Noble's Promise for 5th and that Make Music for Me blew by him in the final quarter doesn't bode well for the horse.

He could win the Preakness, but I think the horse is at best at a mile and this incessant Gomez bashing is ridiculous. If I was Gomez I'd have a hard time ever getting on another Baffert horse after he said he needed to buy him Jerry Bailey DVDs. Remember also that if you're taking him in the Preakness you're taking a smaller price than he was in the Derby.

At no point did I say that the BC or pretty much any of the rides by Gomez were poor or his fault. I just stated that it was poor racing luck. It's nobody's fault he drew the 13 for the BC or the rail for the derby. The points you make for the derby are well taken, but obviously there were other issues/factors that might have came into play that day.

And Terry doesn't "fit" anymore

I was not directing anything specifically at you or anyone, there's just been a ton of stuff said about that particular race that I've long disagreed with.

I don't find LaL nearly as impossible in the Preakness as I saw Sidney's Candy in the Derby, but I do think it's put up or shut up time for him.

Please correct me if my blind a s s didnt see thing as they really were , but in the Derby LAL had the #1 hole (which looked like it was not inline with the rail ) and didnt have enough speed to get a clear position before the rail came into play. The other riders didn't give him his path and pounded LAL into the rail. Gomez hit the brakes , found a position behind horses and LAL started to climb the mud being thrown in his face......LAL lost all chance in the first 1/4 mile of the race.

If you like the horse, it shouldn't matter who is riding him.

I liked Brother Derik afew years back and as it turned out it didn't really matter that Alex Solis rode him like the sissy he is, he was the wrong horse.
