If his pedigree is distance, wouldn't the Belmont be a good target?

[quote=RolloTomasi]Actually, from the pre-race interview, it seemed as though the genius Kent Desormeaux went over Zito's head and talked the owner into running (one can imagine Big Brown's name being invoked in that phone call). Zito, who didn't seem too pleased telling the story (he said Desormeaux was "politicing"), likely had little to do with it, and ended up with a black spot on his otherwise big day.

I read multiple quotes from Zito, Desormeaux and LaPenta in which all stated that the jock convinced the owner to run Miner's Reserve. I believe one Zito statement was something like, "I had other plans for the horse."

Kent needs to stick to riding and LaPenta needs to listen to his Hall of Fame trainer.

Admit it, you guys only like Trappe Shot because you watched him on Trips&Traps after his debut.

Oh yeah, Ice Box made an appearance as well after his debut.

Clearly, you have an affinity for all things Pulpit.

What do you think of Sky Mesa as a sire?

I think he's overrated, what do you think? LOL

I love Indy and yes, I love Pulpit; he was a brilliant horse.

Blame Nick, as he was the one who allowed himself to get talked into it, if you're going to blame anyone.

Just be sure to credit him for the fine job he did bringing Ice Box along slowly and deliberately to his Florida Derby victory.

It's an imperfect world and you can't please all the people all the time.

He was really high on this horse, I think he called him a future star.

I thought the same thing. I must have been standing.....and he must have been kneeling. He's like a foot taller than me.

I love you andy but I fail to see how a talk about a trip in August has any bearing on betting the horse in the FLA Derby at 20-1. In fact none...The good call was made by hooves who pointed out the middle move die out on a speed favoring track....To me the trip or trap is good for about the next betting race and that's it.

I think Ice Box is more of a product of the worst Florida Derby group in how many years? If the big horse was in there, Zayat actually runs him, he wins for fun and Ice Box clunks for second and no one is talking about him.

I never claimed to have made any brilliant declarations about Ice Box....just that I mentioned him.

I am a bit embarrassed about the major predictions from that race.....I've Got the Fever didn't turn out to be much and that doesn't make up for the two other horses pointed out that won their next starts at 7:2 and 10:1. And forget about how many times I said the race was better than the Beyer figure ( it was eventually raised 9 points ) and predicted it would be a very productive race ( I guess Ice Box is superfluous to that as well ).

I don't blow my own horn.....but I will if you like.

He deserves that, absolutely. I like Nick, I just disagreed with the move. On the other hand, I love that he's taking Fly Down to the LA Derby no matter how it works out.

You'll be lonely.

It's at Aqueduct.
