Tim Ritchey

He ought to pick up some Labreds and stick to the Louisiana circuit for now.

Not relevant, but does anyone have an idea of just exactly how many horses are in the Pletcher stable?

Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.

it's a shame for tim, but we all know it's a part of the business. anyone looking for a reason for the change need only read the above, where tim has two wins at oaklawn thus far. i'm sure the jayaramans were hoping for better-so they've decided to make a change. but at least they didn't go with assmussen or pletcher!

Very enjoyable pics.

from todays daily news...

Owners of Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird fire trainer Tim Ice due to 'mismanagement'

Tim Ice celebrated his 35th birthday in a unique way - standing in the winner's circle at Belmont Park after Summer Bird won the Belmont Stakes. Less than a year later, the trainer finds himself looking for work after being fired by owners Dr. Kalarikkal and Vilasini Jayaraman. Summer Bird and 24 other horses owned by the Jayaramans left Ice's barn at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas Tuesday.

"It broke my heart when he (Summer Bird) walked out of the barn," Ice said. "All I can do is start over and go forward with the six that I have left and rebuild my stable." It's nothing new for the Jayaramans to fire a trainer. Kalarikkal told the Daily Racing Form that they have gone through 82 public and seven private trainers since getting involved in the sport in the early 1980s.

Anybody who goes through 82 trainers is certifiably crazy. Mismanagement my ass, you won three of the biggest races of the year and an Eclipse award under the care of a trainer who did a magnificent job.

Tim Ice will land on his feet. I talked to him at the Breeders Cup and he's a real good guy.

Tim Ritchey, who trained Afleet Alex to victories in the 2005 Preakness and Belmont Stakes, was named the new trainer of Summer Bird, along with some other Jayaraman horses.
Perhaps renowned thoroughbred trainer, radio personality, and spokesman for team Afleet Alex, J. J. Graci can re-join Tim and help him co-ordinate Summer Bird's campaign.

I've worked for some micromanagers in the past and it makes life hell. Wow, big surprise. What have you done for me lately.

BellaGena Stable 02-10-2010 09:50 AM

I feel bad for Tim. I think he will draw owners with all the publicity that is around this. He might do better if he moved east but I am sure he will land on his feet. 82 trainers is just nuts. He has issues.

M. Night Jayaramans

DaTruth 02-10-2010 10:00 AM

How many horses will the Jayarmans send to Cole Norman when he returns?

eajinabi 02-10-2010 08:43 PM

The Jayramans probably need to get a trainers license of thier own and train thier own horses.
