Wow. You might read up on the direction Ford is heading, the reviews of the electric cars Ford has in the pipeline, the pricing, and the predicted public response to purchasing those cars. I mean, from the millions of "public" that are not you.

No. They are waiting for Obama to be gone, and a Republican to be in the White House, which will somehow magically cause the steel industry and giant American auto to be restored to it's rightful place in the world, a nonstop orgy of building huge heavy sedans and SUV's that get 15 mpg for a greedy American market brimming with easy credit and disposable house equity income.

electric cars are put away in the winter here and I can't afford a politically-correct car like everyone who has them for a summer car. Maybe when global warming takes full effect I will be able to trade in my 4-wheel drive for an electric putt putt. HOPE

Or maybe we can build better mass transit? Or maybe we can improve our snow removal system? Maybe a million things...

Like it or not, and i dont always agree with Riot, but we are in a brave new world. The old paradigm is indeed gone forever. American Society is changing and the way we view debt, credit and consumption will never be the same.

And Ford DID ask government help and DID use it in the form of TALF.

As far as non talf, Ford basically is issuing junk bonds to restructure its debt. Their old debt load was crushing. They had liquidity but some big notes were coming due. They just pushed it off into the future (back to the old ways) and are hoping that there is a serious rebound.

The good news? There was actually a market for the debt!

We were talking about why Ford didn't take government money or go bankrupt, and you laughed at my comment about the Union concessions. Apparently you are unfamiliar.

How exactly did i change the subject? And you if you want to use the unions concessions as the key to the salvaging of Ford arent you implicating them as a large part of the original problem? If you cant see that just don't bother to respond...

By going off it and talking about old union deals.

Sigh ... again, we were not talking about why Ford got into the shape it is, only how Ford got out of it, and why Ford is doing better today, than the other auto companies. If you want to start a thread on why the auto companies got into the biz bag over decades, feel free.

Um, yeah, really, there are many inexpensive, affordable, good range hybrids and electrics literally right around the corner.

And yes, Dell, "real" cars, not "putt-putts".
