Thinking of some other stuff. For two months last year, my friends and I referred to everything and everyone that we deemed "average" as a Giacomo. I often discuss with my single friends whether they are dating in allowance company, or just chasing cheap claimers. Anyone who starts a party by drinking heavily early is sprinting, or setting a suicidal pace, with the prediction they will fade when the real running begins. |

I do that myself aswell but most of my friends are not horse racing people whatsoever so it usually passes them by or they think Im quite odd!.. theres one guy I know, he sets ridiculous early fractions but still has enough gas to last the distance. Simply incredible! |

When I was in High school I used to "train" my dog, pretending she was a race horse. I'd run her around the backyard in a schedual. We'd jog and have a breeze every 6 days. My dog loved it and she was in great shape! Then I'd make up pretend races once and awhile. Yea I am a dork. I also used to jog by myself around the block and pretend I was in a race and stalking the leaders before I'd blow by them in the stretch. I cant believe i'm admitting this!

This is the best one yet!!!

Guilty of being a car jockey although I have a better record than Jerry Baily. I usually pick out an overhead sign on the freeway and if I win easy I let off the gas a little to give others a chance to the next sign. What's fun is when the car(s) around you realize it and start to race.
Do it all the time.....with my record to bad I can't breed my car. |
Back to the original post.
I use to run in road races competitively. I would always think at the beginning of a race when I started out excited but conservative that I was being constrained by my jockey and that the some of the novices that took out like bats out of hell were first timers. They of course would come back to me usually by the end of a half a mile... My track workouts would clearly involve breezing or hand ridden. And at the end of a race when it was flat out a struggle to keep pace I would just concentrate on holding form and fighting thru the fatigue. And down the stretch they come... Gander and some others might know what I am talking about. I think running on your own gives you a great appreciation how athletic horses are. |
well, after reading all this, i'm happy to see i'm not the only weirdo out there!!!
my kids have gotten used to it...didn't get quite the same look as i used to when my daughter said something the other day about having inside information... |
