Manning is light years the best qb of his era.

It's not even close.

A lot of people mention Brady because he won 3 Super Bowls ... but he won them with defenses ranked #1, #2, and #6 in the NFL in points against... while his offensive units ranked #4, #6, and #12 in points scored.

The defense was the Pats superior side of the ball in all 3 SB winning seasons.

Brady was just an excellent qb who, for a long time, had a great defensive machine to help him out.

The only overpowering offenseive team Brady ever played on was the '07 one when Moss was added. That team set the NFL scoring record ... but got David Tyree'd in the Super Bowl.

if Manning had Brady's defenses ... he'd have been unstoppable.

once he got over the hump of winning the Superbowl.. he's by far the best in the game and one of the best ever.

Brett Favre completed 24-of-46 passes for 301 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Week 3 against the 49ers.

Favre was mediocre for most of the afternoon, but led the Vikings on a game-winning 80-yard drive with 90 seconds and zero timeouts left, capping it with a scrambling 32-yard touchdown strike to Greg Lewis as the Metrodome exploded. He attempted 46 passes after throwing a total of 48 times in his first two games and finally tried some deep balls, which is especially interesting with a Monday night matchup against Green Bay next week.

Greg Lewis' only catch in his Vikings debut was a game-winning 32-yard touchdown with two seconds left in Week 3 against the 49ers.

Amazing. Brett Favre will get all the credit, of course, but Lewis made an absolutely spectacular leaping, feet-dragging grab at the back of the end zone to give Minnesota a dramatic come-from-behind victory.

Brett Favre's numbers look good and his performance on the game-winning drive adds to his legend, but he was just 19-of-37 for 228 yards before the final 90 seconds. That works out to 6.1 yards per throw. Tarvaris Jackson's career average is 6.6 yards per throw. Just saying.

And for a three-year period from 1995 to 1997, he played the position as well (and as excitingly) as any passer in history, tossing 112 TD passes to 42 INT.

Despite it all, he might not have even made the list if we published this back in August. He had been a mediocre (in 2000 and 2006) to even a bad quarterback (2005) over many of the past several seasons. But he responded with perhaps the greatest statistical season of his career here in 2007 – no small feat for a 38-year-old warrior who guided his young team into the NFC championship game for the first time in 10 years. Of course, shades of the “Old Yeller” Favre haunted Green Bay in that game, as he tossed a critical pick in OT that handed the Giants an easy opportunity to score the game-winning points. There have been a handful of disastrous postseason “gunslinger’ moments over the past decade – and they’re the only thing keeping Favre, the most productive passer in history, from earning a spot much higher on the list.

Favre has done all his work with a heck of a lot less talent than Manning or Brady.

Favre is more talented than both.

That's like saying you're more retarded than Beetlejuice.

Farve has had plenty of talent to work with over the years.

Thank you for injecting some sense into this thread. The catch was the amazing part of this play. The throw forced an impossible catch that was made.

I am glad he came back and I hope he leads the vikings deep into the playoffs. Where is sniper?

I will go on record as saying that this year Peyton will put up better numbers minus Marvin then any year prior.

Marvin Harrison is an all time great, BUT, he hurt the Colts too.

Peyton and the offense will be better without. Marvin was like a cancer. Bad news and it got worse towards the end.

They just gotta rope in some of those young ego's.

Be alright, just fine.

Stop your hating for just one second and realize the ball was placed in the only spot where it could be caught and not be defended. The throw and the catch were both exceptional.

Lets take each individual championship year seperately Starting with the first one:

2001

6th offensive scoring 6th defensive scoring
19th total yardage gained 24th yardage allowed

Remember that Brady didnt start until the third game of the season. up until that point, the pats were close to LAST in total offense and scoring having scored a combined 20 points in the first two games (both losses). Coincidentally, Brady's first start was against (drumroll please) the Indianapolis Colts at Foxboro (a 44-13 win). Take those first two games away and the offense has a higher ranking overall. That year, that offense was every bit the equal of the defense and probably more important to the overall success. Remember, they were 5-11 the year before with the "genius" belichick and they were 0-2 before Brady stepped in. They were 14-3 including playoffs afterward. How much of an impact did Brady have???? Consider also...this was a first year starter with average talent around him.

And it was a throw none of the other quarterbacks on their roster could have even made.

How many QB's in the NFL can make that play in that situation?

Maybe JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn

Let's cut the crap. He freaking flung it downfield hoping the receiver would make a play, which is what he always does. Fortunately for him Lewis made a terrific catch. But acting as if that hick knew exactly where the ball was gonna go and that it was gonna be in the perfect spot for only Lewis to catch it and then get both feet inbounds, it's ridiculous.

Secondly, everyone's conveniently ignoring that he pretty much gave the game away two minutes earlier with two crappy passes on third and fourth down. Luckily for him the Vikings' defense was badass enough to get the ball back in 20 effing seconds and he got a prayer answered.

rpncaine 09-29-2009 06:32 AM

Yep. Got it. My bad.

Couldn't see past the McNabb inclusion with Manning, Brady and Brees.
