Rup you can't tell a horse to go, then tell him don't go, then tell him go again unless he or she has a superior mind and lots of heart. Very few horses meet those parameters.

i thought that relaxed gesture was going along pretty well, and didn't feel that ramazutti was really pushing him.
i bet if kent had to do it all over again, he'd do it completely differently. he botched it.

Its real simple Zieg. Some riders are "feel riders". Gomez is one of those, and for a feel rider he is outstanding. Chavez has always been like that, and he was awesome at one time. Feel riders just kinda make things up as they go along. They have great instincts and some have superior reflexes and strength. They often get home horses who don't look the best but screw up a lot of rides, especially when asked to think. Kent is one of those guys.

Scav 08-12-2006 09:46 PM

I wasn't sure who was on him all day but that was probably the worst ride I have ever seen on a horse. I didn't bet the race, first off...

I asked the guy next to me if that was Laviolette on him. You didn't see Cornhelio JERK back Showing Up in the Secretariat, just let the friggin horse run. Guy should lose his license, or approval to ride, whatever it is

It was a horror show Scav. On pure stupidity he gets an A plus.
They should show that ride and Gomez' in the 9th race yesterday to all aspiring riders under the "don't let this happen to you" part of course instruction.

Not his first time

This is not the first ride Kent has screwed up her at the Spa. Did it on a Carlos Martin horse taking it to the front when it just had scored from off the pace.

That said if you watch things as closely as some do, you are going to be disappointed by everyone, it is just a matter of time. When i was at Saratoga last week even Johnny V. screwed up a couple of time once on a pletcher first time riding the rail when the rail was obviously dead and then gave a horrendous ride on the turf on another Pletcher horse on Whitney day. Obviously, Johnny V. screws up less than almost anyone else but it still happens. That said if you got bucks on a horse and the rider screws up it bugs the hell out of you, especially if you believe that horse would have won with a normal ride.

Jockey are human and make mistakes. It is obvious that some riders make much less of these mistakes (PRADO, JOHNNY V., JULIAN L.) than others do.

Imagine watching these jocks on a day to day basis at a minor league track... it makes you appreciate the top ones even more.

Exactly how I felt.

I dont see how anyone can defend the way that moron rode Relaxed Gesture. He rode him like a harness horse. You cant send a horse to the front, be able to go slow fractions and reign him back off a slow pace. Did he really think the horses in front of him were going to back up and he was going to go by?

Not going to say he was worth 3/5 and its not like it cost me any kind of score, but its a frustrating way to be out of pick and double tickets.

Gander 08-13-2006 07:07 AM

I was appalled that Kent D, for the 2nd Saturday in a row, took a heavy favorite that I keyed in many picks and doubles off the board.

If Swirling Solomon had won the last race at Saratoga, theres no telling what I would have done. I was rooting so hard for anybody to beat this horse, you would have actually thought I had money on the race.

GPK 08-13-2006 07:15 AM

worst ride of the day...only had Go Deputy in that race as part of my pick 4 only to lose with EC singled in the last leg. Salty about not having win $$ on Go Deputy...absolute gift at 6-1.

Gander 08-13-2006 07:20 AM

Any idea what your pick 4 was coming back with EC?

I took a huge shot with Rich in Spirit in the Bev D, had she won I would have been debt free. Used her over and under Film Maker in the exacta. Those are the only 2 I played in there.

F that job...did that crap when Isabel came through in 2003 and took out 750+ trees at my golf course....if I NEVER have a chainsaw in my hand again, it will be just fine.
