That comment is actually pretty accurate. Sam Houston has never had issues with breakdowns and considering the absolutely wretched stock that has run at the track over the years, that's a minor miracle.

I said earlier it has all but no chance of happening but if so those who attend will be treated to some lovely Texas hospitality.

Assuming Rachel goes in the Woodward, wouldn't that the best place for Zenyatta to take a shot at her, if Zenyatta's owners were inclined to take their mare out of her SoCal cocoon this year? There would be older males to run with Rachel on the front end, as opposed to what you might get in a race such as the Beldame or any other race limited to fillies and mares. And a 9F race track might very well suit Zenyatta's running style.

Zenyatta's owners aren't even willing to consider the Pacific Classic now. There is no way they are going anywhere to face Rachel.

I have heard they were not happy at all with Belmont after Giacomo and Tiago shipped there. Dont jump on me because I am not saying it but just saying I read that over the past couple of years.

I agree. The match race idea is silly. My point was that, if (and that's a mighty big IF) they wanted to face Rachel, wouldn't the Woodward be the best race in which to do it.

I thought it was more but that would be an issue, surprised CD is doing that as no horse in the BC could race there.

Recent history suggests that most horses are over the top after the Breeders' Cup and the preps to get them there. And the fact that the BC is a week later than usual makes the turnaround time to the Clark even less appealing.

It could be 20 million, like money matters with two owners worth 100's of millions and at a place like SH.

Actually Cannon Shell believes purses are VERY important so I am assuming if it was 20 mil that would get both of there attention..

i doubt that zenyatta will go anywhere to face rachel. there's no need for them to ship. there's plenty to win in cali. they won't enter her in an open race, as they don't wish to take on males. they probably don't want to enter a weight for age, and concede any perceived advantage to rachel in that respect.

if the main things the mosses want is to race zenyatta, enjoy her racing, and try to retire her undefeated, then there is no reason at all for them to do anything other than what they've been doing. if they absolutely want HOY, then they cannot. so, it all boils down to what is most important for them. i don't have any issue with them if they choose to keep zenyatta in california, just like i have no issue with jackson not taking rachel to the bc.

freddymo 08-11-2009 05:41 PM

From what insiders are saying the Clark is a very real possiblity.

I have no issue with them keeping her record clean as long as they rep that they never wished to face horses that Zenyatta would lose to..Mind you I am a Huge Zenyatta fan.. I really am an enormous fan of her's

Bobby Fischer 08-11-2009 05:47 PM

lol Jess Jackson should have front men offering $2 Million match races at b-level tracks every few days or so, now that Moss has decided to be conservative.
