I like the horse and will never doubt Nick Zito in the Belmont, but isn't this a 7 furlong horse?

Hmmm at first glance, I thought to myself what an easy pace scenario for RA this race was shaping up to be.

But if she were in the race, it could turn out to be a Smarty Jones-like scenario where they all make premature moves because they aren't going to let RA get away with any breather whatsoever and that would set it up for Mine That Bird.

It doesn't matter who Zito has in the race, Summer Bird is going to upset the Belmont. ;)

I guess his final NY ride won't be a winner.

Hopefully he'll have a mount in the 13th.

:D

I imagine he'll jump back on Pioneerof Denial when those two battle off for greatness in CA.

If Mine that Bird doesnt change his style he doesn't have a shot in the Belmont. From what I gather no horse has won from more than 5 lengths behind at the 1 Mile Call in the last 10 years. For my calculations I use a hd = 1/10th of a length.

They said Gomez liked the way Chocolate Candy finished in his workout... but I'm wondering if they liked how he finished in the Derby.

Both Rachel and Mine That Bird worked in the rain this morning.

The decision to run Rachel has been moved to next week, but Jackson confirmed Albarado would ride her in the Belmont if Borel lands somewhere else. Mine That Bird's connections said they would wait a few more days until confirming a jockey...

I don't see Borel taking off her. Do you?

absolutely not.
calvin is in the cat bird seat. did anyone expect calvin borel to suddenly be THE hot commodity? good for him!

In addition to saying that if she skips the Belmont, she'll likely run in the Mother Goose, what I found interesting was this:

Jackson also said it is questionable whether Rachel Alexandra would be pointed toward the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita in the fall. He reiterated his dislike of artificial surfaces, such as the Cushion Track at Santa Anita. If the filly did run in the Breeders’ Cup, Jackson indicated it would be in the Classic rather than the Ladies Classic.

No one's mentioned this yet on this thread but Joe Talamo is scheduled to ride this year's Belmont winner.

who's he riding? and how can you know who the winner is, when we don't even have a field yet?

NTamm1215 05-26-2009 11:58 AM

He's riding Summer Bird, who could certainly win but I'd be hard-pressed to call him the winner right now. The flood-gates opened when Andy referred to Dunkirk as the winner.

Having an opinion early on is termed 'opening the flood gates'?:zz:

Kent Desormeaux will be on Summer Bird. Talamo's off.
