I know that research costs alot , but after drugs have been on the market for so long its hard to justify the amount of money that they charge.

It's hard to justify people making 300k-500k a year off sick people, but.... damn...Americans will die trying.

I have. And really all you have to do is take a ride in your car and look on every street corner and count how many drug stores there are.

I'm not talking about those in that range. Nobody should make 300k-500k a year off the sick. Start there. Get rid of that. Then, look for other solutions, but you can't just ignore those feasting off sick people. All I am saying is let them go into a field that is a luxury item. I don't want people in these fields for the money. If they don't like it for the job, then that's it. Move on.

??????????????????????????????????????

I'm going to correct you because you are wrong. My father is far from a doctor. In fact, I dont even think he ever dreamed of being a doctor when he was a little boy. He's a self employed sales man actually.

So I'm not going to be objective because my father sells dirt to be cleaned from oil spills?

But at least I'm consistent on the issue!!

so you dont want your doctor to be smart?

Yes, thats a good idea. The smart kids who can be great doctors should be casino owners, and the kids with IQ's of 100 and below should be the ones performing hand and feet amputations.

The reason Pot will never be legal and taxed in this country , I believe has to do with the fact that the drug companies will feel a big hurt. No more anti depressants and sleep aids, no more addictive pain killers to sell , its all so bogus . I dont smoke but I am not so closed minded that I dont see the writing on the wall when it comes to pharmacutical companies and our government that seems to be in cahoots with them.

Since when is 300k to 500k an outrageous amount of money?

Why is making a lot of money a bad thing?

What other method is there to reward success in a profession?

If Doctors don't treat sick people and play golf what else is there for them to do?

Why hasn't Scuds doctors upped the dosage levels on his meds to counter his recent bouts of extreme insanity as opposed to just usual ramblings? Are they too busy counting their millions at the bank and have neglected his coverage?

Inquisitive minds want to know.....

being a doctor isn't a job, it's a calling. a lot of people couldn't give up the time involved, and a lot of people wouldn't want to be married to one. you take a backseat to the profession. the ungodly hours, the responsibility...i couldn't do it, nor would i try.
the fault with the system doesn't lie with the doctors salary.

but it worked so well for fuel companies...

seriously, you have a point there. lack of competition screws the customer, not the business.

Lots of medicine practiced by GP's could be done
easily by others. Some of the stuff they do is not
rocket science.

But good GP's are absolutely necessary for finding
some of the problems. Most prospective medical "kids"
want to be brain surgeons or orotho's working on some big
name athlete. More good GP's needed, and then the minor
problems taken care of by physician assistants.

The lawyers are a big problem.

A lady hit me about 7 years ago (auto accident,
not because I assualted her) Cops wrote up the
report, upon which over the next 2 weeks I got at
least 6 calls from Lawyer "cold callers" asking about
my injuries. I said I was not hurt, just a sore neck..
Big mistake. Then they kept going on, it might be, it might be...
Finally I started to claim I had been decapitated in
the accident. One office asked how to spell decapitated
and said we will get back to you.

It would also help if more care went to kids and not
old farts like myself that lack a skull.

The Pharm. stuff posted above is very interesting.

240 G's for Malpractice ins

Yeah....those Docs are livin large on 80 G's before taxes!

not including paying off loans for school.

I can hardly wait for DocICU3 to chime in!!:D

Smart kids that want to get rich went into finance/banking and were making 300-500k as 20 somethings right out of college. "Idiots" like me went to med school for 4 years, did 4 years of residency making 35k a year and didn't make over 100k until I was 31. Oh, and I had over 150k in loans from medical school. I love medicine, but anyone goes into the field to "get rich" doesn't last very long, and I'm hardly making my living off the miseries of others as you suggest. Is legal care a right? How come you have to pay for water?

pmacdaddy 05-12-2009 05:54 PM

Doctor salaries are very low on the problems in the Health Care System totem pole.

Malpractice costs are absolutely insane and cripple lots of folks like OB's. One bad case and it can be lights out... Tough way to operate.

Thank you Dr. Fisher, Dr. Darling & the staff @ Albany Med...

Attachment 1256

I don't care how much $$ they made...I don't think pulling my guts out and laying them on my chest for a 9 hour surgery was a luxury for anyone.

However, I do believe in some form of socialized medicine...paying $1100 a month for health insurance sucks... Also, seeing that Medicaid/Medicare system is robbed annually of approx. $60 billion, this would not happen if there was some form of universal health care.
