I'll disagree in that I'm a fan of both horses. Looking at all available evidence I take the view that Kauto Star is better, though much of that is due to his outstanding performances from 2m to 3m. The only situation in which Denman can beat him is in a Gold Cup where he's able to ensure that the emphasis is firmly on stamina. Even then I'm not sure that he'll beat Kauto Star if that one's on the top of his game.

I don't like all this 'broke his heart' stuff. Not only is it an annoying phrase, but it's inaccurate. Kauto Star plainly wasn't at his best from an early stage last year, before Denman had even upped the ante a circuit out.

But, as you say, they're no more than opinions!
