Yeah. Well it's their profession, so it seems kind of harsh to make someone pay money for the opportunity to put food on their table. It's like you or me paying a fee to go to the office everyday.

But the thing about them needing practice makes sense. So I don't know.

You must like not labor unions either:)

Then will a jockey's fee schedule be posted in the program (or made public)? So the public can tell if a trainer is using his "high priced hired gun" or just a "run of the mill jock".

Do you think this could cause some resentment among the jockey colony? The guy making more money for his riding fee, who also is currently riding a lot of winners, suddenly finds himself in tight during races.

Just a couple of thoughts of what might come from indiviuals setting their own fees.

Johnston complains that the fee in NY is $100 and the KY fee is $45. Now maybe the KY fee needs an adjustment but maybe he should compare the purse structure between NY and Turfway before he starts comparing the fees. And if the jockeys dont want to ride on Saturday that is fine because I will just use Cherie. She is better than at least 1/2 of the riders there and her fee is reasonable.

I'm thinking the cost of living is twice what it is in Ky also

You are giving them far too much credit. They probably deserve a raise and supposedly thy will all go to $60 "for now". Of course most of the current jocks will be riding in parts unknown in a few months so what difference does it make to them.
