as you know , i do know an owner , and he tells me he has no say in what races the horses go to , it's pretty much up to mgmt

Of course it's up to management.

I don't speak for West Point but if you have any questions I suggest you contact Terry Finley.

I disagree. Z Humor has been very well-spotted and managed this year IMO.

Lear's Princess beat Rags to Riches in the Gazelle so she did "figure" in the BC as long as she could handle the mud. High Finance was spotted a bit agressively, IMO. I don't know of any partnership that allows shareholders to decide on placement.

Zayat has had some nice prospects fizzle. How'd that Maimonides work out? Z Fortune should have stayed in NY (or returned after not lighting things up in the Derby preps.) He was a NY bred who could have been useful. I like Premium Wine but he never quite seems to get there. Was (is) J Be K theirs? He's a nice sprinter, a useful type but not exactly championship caliber.

They spent alot of money for alot of horses. They'd have been better off with more focus and less of a wide net approach.

Where is Z Fortune by the way? He was useful and could have done some damage within those NY bred stakes races, and Grade 2/3 races....

He was last seen running 7th in the Iowa Derby, then 8th in the West Virginia Derby. Hopefully he's getting a freshening.

Why was Lear's Princess retired?

The Satish and DWL Show certainly burned some serious money.

They also did well with Currency Arbitrage. And others...

They also had a filly named Illiquidity who Gary bought for $30k and they sold for mid six figures.

I LOVED that mare!!!!!! used to hotwalk her everymorning in Toga that high school summer off... she was my favorite.. very laid back to walk... just dont try walk behind her in the stall or she'll kick the crap out of ya!

Have a pic of her in the winner's circle at the SPAAAA!

Edit- and a gelding or colt Gary had at the time... by Affirmed... the horse's name was Antitrust... Guess where I got my handle name from!!

Did Gary train for free?

Umm, Violette doesn't train for free either and he hasn't had anything close to Subordination for the money.

pgiaco 11-19-2008 05:52 PM

IMO, they are all pikers compared to Ward/Oxley who wrote the book on how to win a "one other than" with an $800k purchase.:zz:

Not to take a side in the argument, as I don't have one, but what about Read the Footnotes?

You could probably call it a wash between "Footnotes" and Subordination, but I think Klarman had a lot better, for a lack of a better phrase, second tier horses like Currency Arbitrage, Antitrust and Illiquidity with Sciaccca for a lot less money than he has spent with Violette.

Read the Footnotes and Sharp Humor were two of the better NYB's that could have been special if they didn't get hurt. I liked them both quite a bit.
