I hope you didn't miss the classic in the selections area... A definitive bullsh.it election

When CD bought the Fair Grounds in 2004 they decided not to hire him because he was requesting $500 a day. They also didn't like his work ethic because he would show up 5 minutes before the 1st race and would be gone prior to the nightcap being official. Having said all that, I consider him a top tier announcer. I just think he rubs people the wrong way. I was surprised they are considering him for the position knowing his past.

Wrona may be the guy who once referred to a longshot front runner that held his lead late as "staying like a mother-in-law!"

Your comments on Wrona's work ethic are preposterous, and $500 per day is not an unreasonable request for a "top tier announcer."

Scurlogue Champ 11-11-2008 07:42 PM

I think he's the front-runner

Your name is offensive and hilarious. Kudos, Peter Berry.

LOL

Wrona is a very good racecaller, one of the best.

Why would him leaving after the last race matter? You think hes going to hangout in the booth all night long and look over the track, someone going to steal it?

The guy is very good, and the guy from England is very good.

500 a day seems cheap to me. Should get 100 per race.

hoovesupsideyourhead 11-11-2008 08:02 PM

kurt becker dammit..

The Bid 11-11-2008 08:04 PM

Hes very accurate and very boring. He puts me to sleep

NTamm1215 11-11-2008 08:34 PM

This whole tryout business begs the question, why would guys like Wrona and Collmus need to "audition" for the job? Don't they have enough credentials to just get it right off the bat?

The Bid 11-11-2008 08:37 PM

Collums and Becker have put more people to sleep than Kavorkian

Habersham000 11-12-2008 08:51 AM

I actually like Kurt Becker.....I too don't see any problem with a announcer leaving after the last race....I knew a top announcer that would try to beat out everyone cashing in their tickets after the last race so he didn't have to sit in traffic leaving the track.....

Danzig 11-12-2008 09:12 AM

maybe hrfan should send his resume.

Oaklawnfan 11-12-2008 12:29 PM

Terry Wallace wasn't offered an audtion? I'm shocked!

Michael Wrona 11-12-2008 04:48 PM

Bogey definitely off-par

Anybody is entitled to express an opinion about my racecalling style, but Bogey is wrong with his/her authoritative declaration of my Fair Grounds salary, AND VENTURING TOWARDS LIBEL CONCERNING MY WORK ETHIC. I take great exception to the post, and could call upon countless references to refute such outlandish, unfounded claims...
