That stinks - she'll be shipped to Dubai, pointed for the Dubai Oaks, miss the the KY Oaks and run all of about 4 or 5 times (if that) next year. I have no doubt that the Sheikh treats his horses wonderfully, but IMO, we are not going to see this filly's full potential come out. This has been a lousy day all around - even Da Bears looked like garbage.

You can revise the plan. She went to IEAH..

There is a link in the first post of the entire catalog in pdf. Go to it and scroll through and you can pick out the hips of interest.

I wouldnt give a penny over three million for her...
But seriously I believe they overpaid for her considering she has never run on the dirt and has a weak pedigree.

GBBob 11-02-2008 05:01 PM

Was the Baffert, Lukas , Zito menage trois involved in the bidding at all?

Just found out it was IEAH that got SB. On another board, people are very upset about this. I despise Dutrow, but maybe IEAH will send her to John Terranova who has Laragah? I doubt it, though.

Also, it's the UAE Oaks, not Dubai Oaks, that I was referring to.

I really need to stop getting all worked up before something happens..thanks!
If SB goes to Dutrow, she'll stay on the East Coast - that'll be fun.

Why?? It's not like the Pepper's Pride connections had a chance. Who else was in the running here?

Tapit's pedigree is very strong and he is off to a very good start. SB's damside is weak, though - I'll certainly grant you that.

Also, a lot of people are assuming SB is just a poly freak - not quite sure why as her pedigree leans towards dirt, not turf.

So far from what I can tell, just from the bidding, there have been numerous RNA's.

Eric

This sale is different than most and it is going as it usually does. Many of the mares in here already have a lot of value and people are looking to see if someone else has a higher opinion of their horse than they do. They take some weanlings from the new sires and weanlings are a really tough market.

LOL True.

Everyone seems to hate IEAH. I despise Dutrow, but even though one of the owners (Iavarone) lives in my hometown (in fact, I think he lives across the stree from me), I haven't exactly followed them. You'd know more than I would as to why IEAH inspires such strong feelings in people......

Tapit has a long way to go. Posse was really strong two years ago and what has he done lately? Personally I like my horses to have a little more than synthetic form before I spend close to 6 million on them but that's just me.

maybe it's because that's where she's won. as for her pedigree, you can't just ignore her bottom half--she is weak pedigree-wise.. and altho tapit is doing ok thus far, he's still too new to know much about. he could be a good sire of two year olds...but i doubt ieah bought her for what's she's done. i think they may well have overpaid for her, considering how tapit did past april of his 3 yo season--and her dam is weak in that dept as well.

The only way they didnt overpay is if she wins the KY oaks and or Alabama and is a strong 3 year old filly champion. Then she will be worth what they paid for her. If she is a bust as a three year old she will be selling next year in this sale for $2 million or being bred to Big Brown.

that's not asking for much. as for her future in the shed, surely she could do better than BB!?

Yes he does have a ways to go - look at Officer as well. Of course, those were sires thought to be more precocious. However, SB is obviously a very talented filly and her sire-line is very well thought off (not just Tapit) - that's all I'm saying. I guess most people assume she's going to handle the dirt.
