Not every mare that wants to go to Hard Spun gets accepted. Plus I still think that he is a giant question mark as a stallion especially since it is almost universally thought that he will be a good sire.

I will find out. But it is possible they want to reserve the right to change it as the season goes on and if you have a listed price it is pretty hard to change at least upwards.

Oh so when they dont get accepted by Hard spun's pimp patrol they figure a better option is to spend another 15k to get them some Boundary love. Now I get it.

Why in the world wouldn't Hard Spun make a terrific sire other then having bad luck. That colt was flat out fast and extremely good at two.

As are many of the hyped stallions that are now standing for $2500 or worse in Turkey or South Korea.

Just at 2?? He was 2nd in the Derby and Classic at 3!! I'd call that extremely good as well. He had speed and the ability to last up to 10 furlongs.

one in ten make it. it helps in hard spuns case that he's by a sire who could get anything, but it also helps that he has as much support from the farm as a horse could hope for.
BUT, he could still be a failure. one in ten-that doesn't mean one in ten good ones. a lot of horses with huge potential were absolute duds, and racetrack prowess does nothing for their second career.
look at where the bid ended up for one, alysheba is another. no givens, and not much time to prove themselves. he either shows early promise, or he'll get sold and shipped off.

Danzig hasnt exactly been a real live stallion line in this country for a long time. Langfuhr and Belong to Me are really the only Danzigs that are doing much in the US though Exchange rate is ok and War Chant is a so so turf only sire. Danzig has done much better as a turf sire overseas and though I personally have no problems with that the fact is that he will be considered a bust if he is not a top dirt sire. His female side also tends to be grassy.

Bid did some nice work on the broodmare side . And there are no guarantees that any foal, from any sire, will be a winner . A good horse can come from anywhere . Especially if this game can create a level playing field, finally . uh, hopefully.

yeah, i know-which is why i was trying to caution him that hard spun may not end up doing well, nothing is a given.

I guess we just toss the immense European success as luck? Hard Spun will be the real deal. He may have been a bit of a Jones juice horse but I still suggest he was extremely talented.

he was talented. but racetrack talent doesn't mean much when it comes to breeding. some tremendously fast horses have ended up nowhere after retirement.

look at poor ferdinand.

European success isnt dirt. If he is not a good dirt sire he will be a disappointment to most.
