He has significant history of foot problems and he'll get 100K per live foal and they will be lining up for him. So there will be another 100 to 120 more horses trying to make it as 2 yr olds in 2011. The horse seems very sweet and will have a good life. That's all you can ask for a race horse.

Dutrow and Ivarone can finally dissolve their relationship after Kip wins the cup again. As for the classic this year, I am going to enjoy it. Casino Drive will be fit to go. And you never know what can happen. In 2006 all they spoke about was Lava Man and Bernadini. It'll be fun.

You think he will be 100k and the line will be down the highway to get to a Boundary that was a better grass horse and never ran a particularly fast race in his life against suspect competition?

A couple of thoughts 100k is way off especially in this economy I suggest 60k Advertised and 40k in real life with a decent mare.

I would maybe recatergorize that, he ran some huge races and I think his connections make people think differently.

He may have won some big name races and his Derby effort was a really good one but he never ran higher than a 109 Beyer. I think there is a difference between a huge effort and a fast race and I don't think Big Brown ever ran a really fast race. We used to get horses to routinely run higher than 109 Beyers. Horses like GZ, Skip Away, and Formal Gold were running in the 120's. Candy Ride went over 120. Medaglia was regularly over 115. Pleasantly Perfect. Smarty Jones. Afleet Alex. I mean, the list goes on and on of horses that were faster than him.

I bet the horse in the Derby didn't think he could lose. To me his derby win is a very good race but way slower then most Derby's and with the lamest crap competition ever. Let's face it Big Brown could have been a real nice turf horse. He had a fair amount of talent which allowed him to overcome a lot of sheat competition and dirt. I think he was born in the right year and would have been just a competitor last year in his division.

Competitor as in always hitting the board or winning a couple here and there?

I am not going to argue competition because I am not very good at it, but what I will say is that yearly times of the Derby is very hard to compare, the track is not the same year to year, and times indoubtly vary. And especially this year, where there was some moisture in the track because of all the rain they received the week before.

As a side note to this, I would love to see a picture of his foot to confirm. The 'conspricy theorist'(?) in me thinks that Jackson called his bluff and now doesn't want to run against Curlin

To be honest Lori, this is ridiculous.

First, Team Curlin has not decided to run in the Classic.. And according to Brad Free and other California sources, are leaning against running. The workout today will tell a lot.

Second, it was Big Brown's plan to run in the Classic since August. Why should he and his connections be insulted when they were always going to the Cup?

Hard Spun , Curlin , Street Sense, or in previous years Showing Up, (especially on turf) Barbaro would have given Big Brown plenty to run at. I kind of doubt he would have been within 4 lengths of Barbaro or Smarty or the 3 last year and NOBODY is really paying 100k to breed to a Boundary/Dutrow

Well said... Like him or not, this is not a good day for the sport. I realize that I'm probably naive to think that horse racing can once again be relevant in the sports world, but I do think that Curlin v. Big Brown would have at least caused the casual sports fan to flip over to ESPN to watch the Classic.
