I think in general those deep, one-run closers are always overbet. People have an affinity for seeing their horse fly down the center of the track, it's exciting. The list of deep, one-run closers throughout history who always went off at odds shorter than they should is long.

Give AG credit for the sensible ride of Visionaire behind a torrid pace. He had the smarts to ride the horse the only way it could win. Eight lengths behind at the 1/2 mile pole and 9-10 wide through the turn wasn't pretty, but he got the job done in a Grade I.

To me, it's the jock who is smart enough to ride like a parasite. In order to do that, it takes a horse with odds long enough that it's o.k. to fail. Then, you can put all your eggs in one basket. This jock understands this notion of all your eggs in one basket. It's one of the few advantages you have when you aren't on one of the top bet horses. Reminds me of some of the rides Delahoussaye used to give. THE BELMONT AND THE KING'S BISHOP = 2 PARASITIC GRADE 1 WINS(easy front, and sucked up from the back by huge sprint pace.) I think Lantana Mob is better, but may have been just a bit too close. That's what I mean. More was expected of him, and so maybe the jock didn't feel comfortable laying him too far back(like Visionaire.) Got bumped around top stretch, too. Seemed better when Asmussen had him(LOL.)

I am a little bit confused here, i get most of what you are saying, except for PPl expecting more from Lantana Mob, I dont like Visionaire at all, but i feel he is a lot better horse then Lantana Mob, I dont think it's fair to compare them. If it was not for Lantana Mobs other part of the entry he would have been 10 or 15-1, Visionaire was well bet, took some serious money and ran like it.
