I think someone said it already, but the only way to really make money in that race would be if BB ran up the track again. If you really think that he is only going to be 1/2, just bet him to win. That could be considered a gift in itself. I personally think he will eventually be at least 1/5. Bigs is right though, they have 14 races there today, there has to be a better spot to make some cash.

Play the pick 4 and single the last. If you can get the a price in the first three legs, you'll make some money.

Just play $2 to show on the whole field. For $14, you are guaranteed a $6.30 return. If the bridgejumpers are out and Brown runs out, you will do okay. He has already proven that he can throw in a clunker.

It's, it's like PG1985 meets Morty, all rolled up into one!

So I ended up putting $50 on Big Brown to win and invested on a $30 trifecta on all horses as BB winning. Did I win anything?

13th race - Monmouth Park - August 03, 2008
Pgm Horse Win Place Show
4 Big Brown 2.40 2.10 2.10
6 Coal Play 8.00 4.20
2 Cool Coal Man 2.80

$2 Exacta 4-6 25.20
$1 Superfecta 4-6-2-3 218.80
$1 Trifecta 4-6-2 32.70
$1 Pick 3 1-4-4 (3 correct) 78.80
$1 Pick 4 3-1-4-4 (4 correct) 849.10

you got a whopping 2.70 back on your $30 tri bet. .40 back for every $2 bet for him to win. so, you made less than $9.

TheSpyder 08-03-2008 05:47 PM

I rekon you made $12.70 on an $80 bet. You won. But I think the point everyone was tryiing to make is chasing such a low return with $80 over the long run is a losing proposition.

If you're happy so be it but it's not a way to play the ponies in general.

I can't really complain since you did better than be today....but tomorrow that's a different story.

You might be right. My X5 requires Premium Unleaded. I should factor in about $7.00 for gas. Boy am I stupid :) How come nobody on this board advised me against my strategy.

Hey at least I had fun watching the race and I don't think I lost anything. Big Brown finished strong and regardless of whether he is Travers, BCC bound or stud, he gave me a few thrills this summer.

For those of you calling him Big Crap, I think that is a little out of line. He still beat 19 horses in the KD from a post that nobody had in nearly a century. And his Preakness and FL Derby was not too shabby either.

Or maybe there is still something left in this horse.

You have to go back to 1999 to find a better winning time in the Haskell. War Emblem (2002) tied Big Brown's time today if what I read is correct. With that said, doesn't Big Brown deserve a little more credit for today's victory?

While I agree with you, look at the P4 yesterday at Monmouth and tell me that wasn't a missed opportunity, $900 per $1 with a 1/5, and two other horses that were until $12 (I think)
