This makes it sound like it was only a two year tax?

That is the AP. I'll ask Johnny tomorrow when we see him, he is everywhere there. :)

It was only a 2 year ('06-08) tax that if distributed retroactively, won't help future purses much unfortunately. There is legislation pending to extend it through 2011, but god knows if that will ever see the light of day.

How the tracks choose to spend the 40% that must go towards the physical plant is interesting too. Besides a few more TVs, etc, Arlington may have marble bathrooms before long, but I hope they designate some of the money to backstretch improvements for all the workers.

That is great news. I can honestly tell you that racing was dying a slow painful death in Louisiana before the casinos. We have QH's and a top level allowance race was running w/ a pure of 5k, and now they are between 20-25k. Heck even low level claimers are running for 20k. It has really saved racing here. It is now worth it, and you can make money running horses down here.

Its just a shame that the horse racing industry has to rely on the casinos to survive. Maybe they should go take a look at how the casino patrons get taken care of, that might have something to do with why they are prospering.

The casinos don't take care of you up here, they just take your money

Oh yes. Patrons were just trying to kill
him by removing the lug nuts on his car.

That place must be a riot.
Who cares about the horses.

If we are speaking of the same person, he just won the first leg of the summer long handicapping tourney last month and is now featured in mailers and programs. Literally full circle

That guy used to get so sauced up
and just spew madness on ESPN.

People claimed he was a good capper,
but he was nuts.
Good for him.
