sorry if that disturbs you..

Flower Alley is not overrated. What about Bernardini? Barbaro would also get it before Giacomo (a grade 2 horse at best).

Buffymommy 07-24-2006 09:34 AM

Honestly, I don't think Block was claiming that Giacomo WOULD or SHOULD be HOY if he wins the PC and BCC. Just stating that IF he wins those races, it could be a possibility...

But I think that IF (and that is a big IF) LM; PD; Bernardini, FA all fumble, and if Giacomo wins those races, Boldruler is right, HOY goes to Barbaro if not for what he did on the track for sentimental reasons.

your post is factually inaccurate, he is in fact already a grade 1 winner, at best.

He isn't a 3yr old anymore. There are no fluky races where a mediocre horse can win a grade 1. He is now just a grade 2 horse at best. By your reasoning then Funny Cide is still a grade 1 horse, which he is not.

Buffy, but the same could be said for most ANY horse. Anyone who wins 2/3 Grade 1s including the BC Classic could win HOY. Giacomo is going to have trouble winning again this year for two reasons. 1. Not all races are going to set up for him like the Derby and SD Cap did. 2. In future races he'll be chasing down better horses than the tiring Grade 3 runner Preachinatthebar.

buff, he wins his next three he will hjave defeated all the contenders and should be HOY. if he wins the PC, which is a good posibility, and then he goes east and wins say the Jcgcup, he will have prolly defeated flower alley there and invasor, maybe commentator. then he would race the BCC and if he wins that he would have defeated everyone of consequence.

Barbaro might get 3 yo hoy. he's a lock.

what the hell are you tsalking bout set up for him..

he trailed the filed and then ran by them in the final 440 yards. i suppose you think the derby set up fopr him too.

i mean its not like he weaved through 15 horses or anything in kentucky, it just set up for him., oh okay..

you can't comparea 7 yo gelding to a 4 yearold back from injury. well isuppose you could but most witht hte ability to reason wouldn't.

I wasn't saying that it was my thoughts on things, just that IF Giacomo does win those races that he would be in the running. Honestly, I don't see him winning again any time soon so it really isn't something to worry about.

No you can't. Funny Cide is occasionly a fast horse who right now could probably still beat Giacomo. Giacomo never has been and never will be a fast horse. Beating preachinatthebar isn't exactly something to write home about.

Funny Cide is 6 and you have to compare the two. Thye don't write many races for four year olds only..

that is factually inaccurate also, he is and has alwyas been one of the fastest in his class. even his time yesterday was 12 seconds a furlong till the end of the race.

He has never once ran a fast race. He is a mediocre 95-100 beyer type horse. The top guys are all in the 105-115+ range.

Block, your talking out of your ass now. OF COURSE the Derby set up for him. Lets look at the race, the pace - 22.28, 45.38, 1:09.59 - cooked Bellamy Road, Flower Alley, Spanish Chestnut, High Limit, and High Fly. Of the closers, Dont Get Mad was coming off a week layoff, Wilko is a bum, Andromedas Hero needs 12f to place, and the others stunk. Afleet Alex had a troubled trip, and Giacomo had clear sailing on the wire to nip 'em. Come on, you know this - the race set up PERFECT for him. So did the San Diego Cap. Preachinatthebar - a Grade III horse at best - goes 22.81, 46.01 - and Giacomo is all out late to get by him. I think the Derby winner is a nice horse, but to even mention HOY with him right now is absurd all things considered. Lets see how Giacomo does if Lava Man gets loose in the Pacific Classic and runs the half in 47 3/5. Giacomo wont be near him at the finsih...

i don't think a 20 horses field sets up for anyone.

lets wait till the 20th.
you didn't like giacomos chances going into saturdays race.
he is back from surgery and as good as he was, i can't wait till the 20th. maybe the claimer will win, maybe he won't. but giacomo is ITM more than he is not and to leave him out of the picture, as a slow horse, is inaccurate.

slotdirt 07-24-2006 10:24 AM

As good as he was....meaning not particularly good at all, sadly.

Danzig 07-24-2006 03:29 PM

whoever said giacomo doesn't need a race to set up perfectly for his running style doesn't know what they're talking about. he makes one sustained run, and has to have the right pace to close into. it's why he hasn't won much, but does often hit the board. he isn't a bad horse, he just has to have things his way--as do a lot of horses. but horses with his style of running more often than not aren't the first at the wire.
all his connections can do is enter and hope for the best. maybe he gets a good trip and the right pace. it's all any owner of any horse with a certain style can hope for, whether they're a speedster or a closer, or somewhere in between.

i thought i saw a horse changing lanes, weaving in and out, i guess thats a perfect set up then. 15 horses in front on you across 6 lanes, all slower than you.

ya thats the perfect set up.

he needs room to get his srtide flowing, like on saturday he was taken into the 5 or 6 path by Smith on the turn, then he
began to really gallop out strong and pick horses off.
he is a closer, true, but not a one dimesional closer. ,meaning he can close, and win, at different distances. some can only close and catch the filed after 10f (borrego, dynever, PP)
some, like this one, can close into different distances.
to say he needs to be able to run dwon the stretch unimpeded by
traffic is pretty much true of any horse running down the lane.
whoever said Giacomo needs a race to set up perfectly for him
doesn't know what HIm or her is talking about.
