agreed - maybe it's my ignorance, but I just don't think hardly any horse is bred for stamina anymore, it's all about speed, speed, speed, and more speed.
which can lead to muddled classic contests.
i don't think gayego is a 'need to burn it up on the lead' type, but rather a horse with a high cruising gear. if he can stay the distance he's an easy place.

Danzig 04-28-2008 07:51 PM

welll, it's hard to tell any more who has what. not many 10f races any more, so they are slim pickings in a horses resume'. but i'd think gayego would stack up to big brown pedigree-wise. really, at this point, pedigree doesn't mean much-everyone is pushing for sprinter/milers-you just need to have a horse who can outgasp the others for that last furlong or so.
the bigger question will become who can run on what surface on any given race day.

and i'm thinking big brown will suffer as he's by boundary, a sire of sprinters.

Nureyev AWD - 8.44 furlongs
Lost Code AWD - 6.32 furlongs

Lost Code has BY FAR the lowest AWD of any damsire in the race.. Where do you get that he's some kinda great stamina influence?

Tiznow over Turkoman is 10f breeding. (That's Colonel John, by the way.)

chances of wearing the roses - not good imo. chasing Big Brown I think will be his undoing.

I like this horse but think that a minor placing would be his ceiling as they say. with a dream trip he might be this years Sedgefield.

Gayego is so much a better horse then Sedgfield ever was....cmon this horse can run, maybe not 10 furlongs, but Sedgefield?

but we're talking about a 10 furlong race aren't we?
wasn't meaning to compare the horses per se, just that I think Gayego would need that kind of trip to be a factor.

Isn't that kinda the most important part?

i guess i was going by his races won/placed.

my whole point is that it really doesn't matter anyway. so many winners for years now are horses who supposedly can't get the distance.

If you take a look at Gayego he looks more like Lost Code that comes from the bottom. He will get the 1 1/4 I just hope it in front of the others.

You're right and we should be looking for the plodder that runs those 12 second splits in this race. Who is he?

That's the pedigree that caught my eye. Turkoman was the damsire of Point Given, and Tiznow won the classic at this track.

Court Vision. My group is trying to pool some trifecta/superfecta money and we're having a lot of arguments on this one. I think he can get a piece, but don't think he's fast enough to win unless the whole thing falls apart and the other closers have big trouble or don't fire.

maybe, but whenever you throw a dog **** horse in a comparison its very difficult for anyone to see beyond a straight talent comparison. Gayego is a top class horse who could get 10 furlongs, and I suppose at 18/1 (thats what he is at on Pinnacle) and big brown is 5/2 its an easy handicapping decision. He can win this race but depending on his odds is how I would rate him (I know I know, its wishy washy but I relate everything to their price).

Court Vision though in his last couple of races has not made a middle move, thats concerning. Even a plodder like Giacomo made middle moves in his prep races showing a hint of talent.

Also the damsire of Hard Spun.

johnny pinwheel 04-29-2008 12:19 PM

i could use gayego or z fortune the arkansas derby has been very influential. both these horses offer a square price derby day

sumitas 04-29-2008 12:36 PM

BBJ has 6 reine de course on his bottom line. That leads me to believe he'll get the distance. He's from the family of Nearctic.

me too, its hard to take 5-2 in this race and believe me i've jumped on the bandwagon and taken my lumps . with this many horses anything can happen, why bet the chalk ?
