Getaway, with Frankie up...

brockguy 08-31-2008 06:31 PM

Good to see Getaway get back to winning ways.. He's a lovely horse..

Is Saddex still on course for Baden Baden next weekend..

my miss storm cat 09-01-2008 02:59 PM

As far as I know he is. :)

Soldier of Fortune to the Arc, NO prep.

my miss storm cat 09-14-2008 08:19 PM

Adlerflug swerves... to the Gran Premio instead.

Wonder if that's the target for Schiaparell (again).

CSC 09-15-2008 06:18 AM

It's a long way out but right now if the course is good to soft, the other undefeated 3 yr old Vision D'Etat would be my choice.

Alternate if entered Ideal World.

Both should be attractive oddswise. Though I respect Zarkava she will not be any value and history says fillies don't usually win this race.

my miss storm cat 09-15-2008 09:07 AM

Zarkava has been my Arc pick since April but yeah... the Prix Niel angle is a good one.

It'll be interesting to see who else shows up..... :)

Arc under consideration for Septimus

Septimus: a run in the Arc would rule out a crack at the Melbourne Cup

BrianFleming

AIDAN O'BRIEN has expressed his delight that easy Irish St Leger winner Septimus had escaped a penalty for the Melbourne Cup but said that the five-year-old could yet enter his calculations for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

The son of Sadler's Wells was cut to 4-1 favourite (from 6) by VCBet for the Melbourne showpiece but the Ballydoyle trainer is still awaiting news of quarantine restrictions to be imposed by the Australian authorities, a factor that could yet have a bearing on where he travels.

“We haven't heard anything yet but we expect to hear news in the next day or two,” O'Brien said. “Obviously we were very happy that he didn't get a penalty.”

If Septimus reroutes to Paris on October 5 for the Arc, it would effectively rule out a trip to Australia a month later, but a decision will be made when the quarantine restrictions are known.

“He can't run in the Arc if he's going to Australia,” said O'Brien, who also has Doncaster Cupwinner Honolulu, who has received a 1kg penalty, and Alessandro Volta as possible Melbourne Cup runners.

O'Brien added: “After we hear news about the quarantine we'll then have to sit down and discuss that hard, whether he goes into quarantine and goes to Australia or if he doesn't and goes for the Arc.

“Don't rule it out completely - the plan all along was to go for the Irish Leger and then on to Australia, but we'll have to wait and see as there are other things in the mix at the moment.”

Racing Victoria's chief handicapper Greg Carpenter, explaining his decision not to penalise Septimus, said: “While Septimus was visually very impressive on Saturday in winning by 13 lengths, given the level of opposition the performance does not warrant a penalty for the Emirates Melbourne Cup.”

Soldier Of Fortune is the main Ballydoyle hope in the betting for the Arc and is a best priced 5-1 second favourite with William Hill behind Zarkava.

Big Brown=Nice, Zarkava=Scary

Big Brown proved he can handle some fine turf horses over the weekend, and I give the horse a lot of credit for his impressive win. I still give his connections nothing but demerits, of course, for only giving him one more race, but, to paraphrase Princess Leia, if money is what they love, then that's what they'll receive.

Of course, Big Brown (still) has never faced anything like the sort of competition that could be on offer in a little over a month; if Duke of Marmalade's
test run over polytrack at Great Leighs works out well, he may well be Classic-bound; I imagine there are quite a few European trainers who would rather face Big Brown than Zarkava (pictured) in the Arc -- especially after this weekend.

Zarkava
proved that the mile and a half Arc distance will be
no difficulty -- even though she missed the break completely (which is replayed a number of times at the end of the video), stumbled and trailed the field for much of Prix Vermeille this past weekend, yet she still had no trouble equaling the record for the race. If you were looking for the best equine performance of the weekend (or possibly the year), this is it.

If Schiaparelli goes to the Arc, Frankie has the mount.

MMSC, read this blog and check out what is wrong with it?

http://sport.setanta.com/en/Blogs/A-...akes-no-sense/

and then check the comment below :)

I agree that a change of jockey could work wonders for Youmzain but Richard Hills, come on.. are you having a laugh

my miss storm cat 09-24-2008 07:28 PM

I think you should get the mount, Brock.:)

brockguy 09-25-2008 09:17 AM

ha, he changed it a few hours after i left the comment - I love Youmzain and have thought very highly of him even before that win in Germany!! However, I only like to back him when he's at least 80-1!!

my miss storm cat 09-30-2008 12:57 AM

If Sir Michael sends both Papal Bull and Ask to the Arc, who does Ryan ride?

Apparently he took Ask for a spin today...
