used to be that if someone felt suicidal, they'd take themself out. now, it's take as many others as you can first. i don't know why, just seems to be the case these days.
more gun control will only affect the law abiding citizen. criminals are just that, i doubt a gun law being broken would give them pause.
I don't necessarily think it is about 'taking care of themselves' as it is the satisfaction of 'revenge' which I feel these people are looking for, in some form. This world is very much has "I'll get you back for ****ing me over or hurting me" mentality instead of just letting things roll off. I am sure there is much that we don't know, this could have been a broken heart(Valentines Day?), revenge, or just random.

I don't actually live in DeKalb (I live over an hour away, just outside of Chicago) so I don't know everything that has been going on, but this has been one hell of a crazy day. Apparently the shooter was a grad student in the Sociology department. The sociology department shares a building with several departments - including the history department which I am part of. I guess there is a pretty good chance that I rode in an elevator or said "hi" to this guy sometime last year.
This whole thing is just absolutely crazy.
Thanks for posting that and I'm very sorry for what you are dealing with now. Sometimes we all get caught up in the aftermath about what could have been done and forget about all those just trying to deal with what happened. Take care and hang in there

And here two of my friends who are Indiana grads were complaining about being embarrassed by their alma mater.

Obviously its not the schools fault but as an NIU alum I know for years there's going to be people who associate NIU with this shooting spree.

Its easier to buy a f-ing handgun than to open an offshore wagering account.....

That is common. Everytime I mention SIU in the state of Illinois people start talking to me about Halloween.....

And you are very right about the last statement.

JJP you arent kidding. How sad is that, its easier to buy a gun than open an offshore.

I opened an account about a month ago with one of those Prepaid CC. They closed the card and kept my money!

Miraja, Glad you are alright. Tragic that someone could be so disturbed to open fire on innocent people.

that is fed up..condolences.....

did he have a past of violence going back to grade school?..ive seen first hand the way the kids are handled in grade school and hs..if you are hyper at all they put you on drugs..anti social more drugs ..had a friend up that way and his kid was just energetic not disruptive,these schools have to take a certin percentage of students and deem them "special needs" to justify having a psyc on staff they put the kid on ridlin..totally fed em up..its the new way of discipline..then when you dont get the meds ..in the old days if you were out of line you got a slap.. now with kids and tv they are all lawyers..touch me ill throw you in jail..video games and anti depressants .. = this kind of thing......imo

You have a problem you get pills and sent on your way. That is not taking care of the problem. It is only masking it for awhile. The sad truth about today is there are drugs, gangs, violence rampant in our streets. We need to fight the terrorism at home not abroad. Things are out of control right now. I wish I could come up with a solution but I cannot.

Mira...I am saying prayers for the people of NIU.

Yeah shocking.

The problem of Doctors just handing out antidepressants like candy is going to lead to more of these incidents. Maybe not as bad as this but once people have been taking those things for a while and stop they just go haywire. Not everyone but many people on these absolutely should not be taking them but it is a cheap way of dealing with mental issues in a system looking to do everything cheaper regardless of the consequences. Truthfully they are readily available over the internet too.

Saw on the news tonight there are 12 states that have pending legislation which would allow students to carry concealed weapons on college campuses.

yeah, if only 1 person had the ability to defend themselvs and others...

gun free zones are the best places to go if you want to inflict maximum damage. these things don't happen at gun shows.

this one hits close to home.

A pastor of a local church lost a grand daughter in the shooting rampage.

My sister used to live in Kazmierczak's apartment complex in Champaign, Il.
Now the news has people saying, "he was such a nice boy..."

A senseless tragedy.

I just saw on CBS local news that the kid went to Elk Grove High School which was my rival in high school. The guy bought equipment from the SAME guy that sold to crazy VT guy. Same gun shop.

I have a sister that is a freshman at Illinois State, and this whole thing has hit her hard. She had a friend from high school that was IN the classroom when all this went down. It just has so many emotions attached to it

You know what is nuts, and I am guessing this is probably a little too nutty, but it is very possible that I have partied with this guy once or twice. My friend was banging this chick from Elk Grove that graduated in 1998, we graduated in 1997, and she used to have these massive parties in her backyard as her parents just left the area for the weekend, and their house was in a culdasac(?) where there was plenty of space/parking. Everything you would want in a party house. I would say 75% of the Elk Grove graduating class was there at some times.

Dont stop taking your meds and leave the pistol in the car in case you accidently wander off into a shady neighborhood...
