I completely agree that Bushwacker has no shot at winning the race, and is unlikely to hit the board.
But I still think he will be a pace factor. What else can he do? He always just runs the opening half in :44 1/5 and trys to hang on.

For what it's worth, and I tend to agree with all of this post, when Bushwacker finished a terrific third to Bordonaro in this race at Gulfstream two years ago, he was coming off a strikingly similar prep in California, just one day different from the one he has this year. Let me also add that Bushwacker had post 11 at Gulfstream that year as well.

if it comes up good/off the bull my be sucking wind...

im giving these 3 top shot at the win/ext

benny the bull
tropic storm off improvment/but polly speed n class problems ..if things go right he may get into the ext

praying for cash has the sprint ped and cuts back
k. m no dummy...

blackthroatedwind 01-24-2008 08:38 AM

You almost made it Hooves......it's Kiaran.

I do, however, agree that Praying for Cash has a decent chance. Obviously Benny the Bull is the horse to beat.

Andy,

What could you possibly mean by this as there's plenty of speed I don't see why they would need a precautionary rabbit (Interesting term). Do you think Four Roses looks at it that way? If I spent 130K for a horse it sure wouldn't be to help someone else.

What am I missing master?

You don't think his 11/7 race beaten a head by Chatain was competitive going 23 the last 2f? That's a finish of 11 2/5 and 11/3/5. I'm saying that's pretty good. What am I missing?

As said before, Benny is the one to beat here. If injury that forced Mach Ride to miss the BC is fully healed (last race says it is), he definitely has the back class, and speed to take this one.
Bushwhacker can't be ignored here. A duplicate of his last race, wins this IMO. Will have to overcome the post, but a good enough horse can.
Its a 3 horse race IMO. Tri box.

Look for Finallymadeit or Praying for Cash to hold on to fill the super.

Do I find it surprising that Four Roses allows Dutrow to use this horse to act as a rabbit for other owners? Yes, I definitely do. It makes one wonder. However, he has been a rabbit in the past ( most recently in the Meadowlands Cup for Diamond Stripes, but also in the Stephen Foster for Diamond Stripes as well as the Met Mile for Silver Train ). However, both those horses were Four Roses horses so perhaps you have a point. But, when Dutrow used two rabbits for Saint Liam in the Woodward they were owned by different owners than Saint Liam.

Perhaps Dutrow only entered him in case there wasn't a lot of speed in the race....or perhaps to ensure that one speed doesn't end up running alone on the lead. However, regardless of how I feel ( which is that he really isn't even fast enough to affect this particularly pace ), it is clear that he has been used as a rabbit in the past and that seems to be the case here.

Using his second by a head to Chatain, at 6F at the Meadowlands, to suggest he has a chance in this race is a major mistake IMO. Chatain is not really a 6F horse and was coming off a three month layoff. Plus, Mr. Umphrey was allowed to sit a very comfortable trip in that race against a bunch of overmatched rivals. Comparing that situation to this one is beyond apples and oranges.

Simply put, even if Mr. Umphrey wasn't entered as a rabbit, which seems unlikely, he is in way over his head and his career record backs that up.

I will take Praying For Cash. Cutting back in distance, 2 bullet works back to back, 1 win and 1 3rd at the 6 furlong distance, getting the services of Johnny V, Kiaran is 23% with horses off a layoff of 90+ days. M/L odds of 6-1 isnt too bad either.
