again the suspension is a complete and total joke to me. this was offered to me when i had my horse in minnesota for the summer a couple years ago. i was absolutely shocked and angered and the trainer said"im just giving you more options" of course i said no and sent my horse to the farm for the rest of the year but this stuff if alot more widespread than most would think. the slightest bit off and you can kill the horse

Riot 10-06-2007 11:51 AM

Good for you. Shame that option was even offered to you.

Did you change trainers?

yeah when my horse returned to the track last year he returned with my original trainer

IMO you should be directing your anger, not at the KHRA, but at the people who allow this to happen and will fill the guys barn when he returns from another long suspension....his owners

im amazed how some trainers here in ILL get 60-65 bucks a day with the purses we have here and are below 10% for their careers, yet people still give these trainers stock

The vet supposedly has more complete and specific knowledge of the effects of using these medications, given his education and training. Moreover, his profession is supposed to have the goal of maintaining health in the animals, not giving them 'quick fixes' so they can run. The vet takes an oath like a doctor and should be a first line of defense against crooked trainers wanting an edge. I would guess that is the reason they came down hard on the vet (who can go work on show horses or cows, if he wants to now. He won't be totally out of business, like Biancone will be.)
