I agree

In the majority, racehorses around the world are treated well 365 days of the year. They are bred to do the job of racing.

The majority of these horses love doing their 'job'.

It's just a sad fact that a tiny percentage of people in this industry let the side down, and it is this tiny percentage that the 'haters' pick up on. There are trainers out there that don't provide the best care, that don't treat their horses with the respect they deserve. Whatever the industry there is always going to be a small number that spoil it, why? Who knows.

It was an interesting point about the drugs. Do you guys really think the horses actually become addicted to these drugs, especially in America where druf usage is high, although legal? I must say, coming from a country where drugs are strctly forbidden in the sport i am against it, but after all of these years it would be almost impossible to change that ruling.

Anyone that agrees with just about anything said in this letter fails to see the forest through the trees. Her comments about "drugs" are stupid. Her assertion that there are horses addicted to "morphine" is false. Her using Alydar's situation as something that is commonplace in our industry is idiotic. Her comparison of dog fighting and horseracing is ludicrious. Her opinion about the owners intention concerning Barbaro is misguided. Her tone and attitude is condesending which is ironic for anyone from Hoosick Falls to be condenscending about anything. Anyone can take the negatives about anything and twist facts to serve their own agenda. Agreeing with her about anything in the context that its presented in shows a lack of understanding about what is going on in the industry.

Improvements can still be made in this sport insofar as regulating drugs, outlawing dirt, and mandating a minimum number of days between races.

C'mon, what's a horse trainer know about the industry compared to Pam Anderson and her breasts!!!

Alydar dying was NOT the result of an equine injury, but rather the actions of a sick and twisted HUMAN!!!

I agree but you forgot GREEDY & Egotistical.

Thunder Gulch 08-10-2007 09:35 AM

OOOOOHHHH....don't get me started on these liberal tree hugging crazies. I love animals and some of the cruelty cases you hear about make me sick, but PETA and their supporters always try to twist facts to forward their views. Last I checked, humans are still at the top of the chain here on earth. Go eat a veggie burger or something- no wait, you might have to painfully pluck fruit from a plant to do that.

You view the content of that ridiculous letter in a kinder and more generous light than I do ;)

Pure drivel from a PETA inspired WACKO!

Think about Alydar, who placed in all three Triple Crown races in 1978. His owners claimed he shattered his leg when he kicked his stall door. According to the FBI investigating insurance fraud, his leg was deliberately broken when it was tied with a rope to a pickup truck and pulled.
I'd love to see that from a legetimate source.............won't happen. (I don't think)

What happened to the 2x4 theory or the crowbar theory.

Rope would have left marks, truck would have left tracks. I have seen the barn Alydar was in. He was found in his stall. I guess they dragged him around, then got him back into his stall without a trace of blood or anything.

Not a minute goes by without some reference to this supposedly ordinary task which actually killed 42,642 people in our country last year, many of them innocent children. 116 people die a day from this cruel, heartless action. Thats almost 6 people per hour!! These deaths are not peaceful either. People wind up mangled worse then Micheal Vicks dogs or Alydar. Often they are decapitated and some just lie there bleeding to death before help can get to them. How can we let this happen!!! We must do something to stop this killer of our people!! Everybody is so focused on the deaths in Iraq when so many more of our people are dying right here in rural America and cities alike. I am asking you to strike out against this silent killer of so many. Stop driving your car. It's more inhumane than horse racing.

I agree.

I drove a jeep through the back of my dads garage when I was about 12. He asked me to back it up and park it.

I thought the damn thing had enough sense to know to go backwords on it's own.

And stepping down on the gas to try and make it stop, when it started inching forward --- that wasn't the smartest of ideas either.

Thoughts on Letter to Editor

Her letter is of course one sided and biased, but even having a touch of truth is too much to put up with. As long as the industry insists on so many races at so many tracks every day, running less than healthy animals will be necessary and accepted.
With intertrack and satellite racing, it would seem less tracks need to run as many days...but greed is a terrible thing, and has ruined many sports.
Just my humble opinion.

The #1 Killer is Exposed

If we really want to reduce deaths in this country forget cars, although they do cause many deaths.

The number one killer is that absolutely abohorant action that eventualy brings people do their doom....eventually.

Having sex....and nine months later another child is born that is sure to one day die of something.
