This sucks.Glad the horse is okay. Now,WHEN will these damn breeders start improving the breed so these horses will be more sound and be able to race longer? This **** happens EVERY year to the top horses and it is getting really old.Polytrack is NOT the answer,IMO.Better breeding is.

I think you're underestimating the difficulty in "improving the breed."

hockey2315 06-24-2007 12:54 AM

That REALLY sucks. . . but there are two positives-

1. From a betting perspective the handicap division has gotten a lot more interesting.

2. I really think he'll have a positive influence on the breed in America as a sire. . .

I was just about to unload my college financial loan money on him next week :D

somerfrost 06-24-2007 01:45 AM

sad news indeed...as others have said, at least he'll survive, that's the important thing!
I guess this makes Carl's decision to skip the Belmont and concentrate on races later in the year especially the BCC look a lot better now...wide open for HOY, gotta believe that as of now, the 3yo champ, whoever he is, will have the inside track unless Rags keeps winning and is entered against the boys again.

Unless SS retires too. . . which wouldn't be a shocker. . .

Sad day for racing. Even with all the excitement of the Triple Crown and the intrigue of the upcoming Travers, etc, Invasor was still the most exciting horse/event in racing. He wasn't "flashy dominant" like the Dinis and Zappers of our world, but he was gutsy, relentless, and never stopped coming at 'em until he broke their will. He always got the job done and never seemed to get his due because of some other supposed superstar. Tiznow is my favorite horse and I wanted him to be the only two-time Classic winner for a long time. After Invasor proved himself last November, I saw a horse that I felt was more than worthy to join The Tiz in that esteemed rank. We've clearly had our disagreements about many horses, but from what I can tell, 95% of the world agreed to the greatness of Invasor. The amazing thing to me is that it seemed he was still improving with every race. Well, hopefully he can inspire the game from the shed like he did on the track.

Does this mean that Jazil will take his place in the Suburban?

I'd like to see him renew his rivalry with Corinthian. Plus Better Than Honour would be a cinch for Broodmare of the Year if he got another big race win.

I am so dissapointed that the champ won't run again. He was truly a special special horse and a superstar in the sport. I am happy that it has a happy ending, and hopefully he becomes a wonderful stud. Unfortunatley this will have a negative impact on the sport, in terms of owners will be even quicker to rush horses to the shed.
Here's to the champ, thanks for the memories.

Spendabuck85 06-24-2007 09:20 AM

This might keep Rags to Riches from running against the boys again as she might be able to get horse of the year by winning out against the girls.

ArlJim78 06-24-2007 09:50 AM

These are the comment lines from his North American PP's, all races he won.

- Clipped Heels far turn
- Bobble start, 7W, driving
- Stumbled after start
- Bobbled start, bumped
- angled in, dropped rein

What impressed me so much about him, beside his big heart and speed, was that nothing could get in his way of winning. He was very agile and didn't need everything to go his way in order to get the job done.

He finishes his career with six straight GR1 victories against olders horses, at classic distances, at six different tracks.

In his three year, 12 race career, he managed to win GR1's on three continents.

It was such a rare and exciting concept that we were going to be able to see a top quality five year old campaign from a horse. He leaves a huge void.
so disappointing.

got nothing to do with improving the breed. invasor injured the same ankle at two, and was given time to heal--as you could see, he came back good as new. of course an injury this time around--well, he'd be off til next year. they gave it a good run, but obviously this time around retirement is the answer.

mclem10011 06-24-2007 12:18 PM

That's terrible......

:( Invasor, a world class CHAMPION! Wow, this does throw the division wide open. Will truly miss watching Invasor run, Kieran has got to be totally bummed at this point, thoughts out to him and his team. One of the best, i've ever seen, the sport will miss Invasor tons. Thanks for the thrills you provided fans all over the world.

I'll miss him too. I look forward to some nice babies.
Good memories. Happy pastures and hot mares for Invasor, you earned 'em big guy.

I will write the Jockey Club of Uruguay and voice your displeasure over their breeding practices.
