While I agree about DISD, It is just a small part of the public school system and the dfw area.. Rockwall,Richardson ,Plano Arlington ,Denton,and Grapevine are just a few of the better public school system in the area. As far as private schools St Marks is one of the best in the US.

That is the truth...Cistercian is also one of the best college prep schools in the country. Jesuit is an excellent school, down here in Houston St. Thomas High School has graduated a number of successful folks in the 107 year history (that's old for Texas). In SA you have Central Catholic, which has always been a good school.

I disagree with Pgardn that the private schools in Texas are bad.

The school system in most of Florida stinks too. Our zoning procedure is totally ludicrous. I guess in that aspect, I can see where you guys are coming from. I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do for my son, actually... if I stay here in Florida for a couple more years, I don't want him in the public school system. Private school is so expensive... :eek:

We have a very good private school in San Antonio, ST. Mary's Hall. Its excellent. But the vast majority of kids that make the switch from public to private in my 21 years of teaching are way behind. In Science anyway, in upper division classes. And I mean way, way behind. Many have never even done labs because they dont have the facilities. So I respectfully disagree in my domain.

I respect what you are saying. What you experience, could it be students comming from inferior public school such as DISD, to the private sector. Mostof the kids in Rockwall,Plano, HP and other well repected school districts dont change to private schools because they receive a quality edcuation in the public sector. The disd is not a very good example of public education in the DFW area.

Plano has great public schools. Excellent some of the best in Texas. The others you mention as well. Colley.. something, Copell, those are all very good public burb schools.

And yes you might be accurate in your assumption because I have had the good fortune of teaching in public schools where the majority of parents have benifitted from education. It is valued in the household. If I were a young parent again, I would definitely make my decision on where I choose to live based on the public schools in that area. This is for Cajun.

We need to know these things so I'm all ears! I want the real opinions not what they tell me in the interview.

So far, I can say DFW is the nicest airport in the US, and I've been to pretty much every large airport. It's massive, though. La Guardia would fit in a tenth of it.

Phil that is a major hub. It is huge. But I find it easy to get around. Good luck.

As far as settling in the area the area nort and west of the airport offers a lot . Grapevine,Collyville,Kelleror even Arlingto. If The job is in FtWorth propper ,Parker county and the Weatherford area offors a nice rural setting.

There is a very good band named Emerald City that plays around town. "D Tags" is their leader and a childhood friend of mine. Wherever they play, it's a good show and a great time. They've played at the White House for Bush and did Mark Cuban's wedding. They're also the house band for the Dallas Mavs. I go there once a year and if you move there, I'll hook you up and we can work as "crew" on the floor. www.emeraldcityband.com

If you are staying in FW I have heard that Sundance Sq in the downtown area has a lot of varried entertainment. I havent been there. I might go to the track fri. If Im there Ill be at the simo pavilion. Ill be the old guy puffing on a pipe sitting at the end of the bar.

Sundance Square is a lot of fun and someone who was born and bred in NY can really get a taste of country music and such. Lot of bars down there and good restaurants. Unfortunately in my experience it was about all downtown Fort Worth had to offer.

In terms of living around or near Fort Worth...Coppell is a great option, not exactly around the corner, but for years now the development has happened northwest of Dallas, as the "Metroplex" expands even more. Colleyville is supposed to be nice...I haven't heard much negative about Hurst, Euless, Bedford, and North Richland Hills is close by and very economically priced.

I went to school in Irving, which is a ways from Fort Worth, but some of the smaller cities in between are nice and ridiculously affordable when compared to the northeast.

I've heard this band play about a dozen times over the last ten years when traveling in Dallas. They're loud and fun. And I'm sure if asked, the guys in Emerald City are dying to give their thoughts on the public/ private school system in the Dallas area....

FYI, George W. Bush graduated from Yale University and obtained an MBA from Harvard. Are you insinuating that his early education was lacking?
